Rancho San Antonio Youth and Family Services

Rancho San Antonio Youth and Family Services Rancho San Antonio is a nonprofit agency that provides therapeutic services to youth and families.

Programs: mental health, residential, outpatient, diversion, substance use treatment, transitional housing, creative healing arts & complex trauma training. Rancho San Antonio was founded in 1933 by the Catholic Big Brothers. Rancho started as a rented home in Redondo Beach to care for 18 boys. In June of 1938, Rancho San Antonio found its permanent home in Chatsworth, CA. In the 75 years since then, thousands of young men have turned to Rancho San Antonio for help and guidance. Since the 1950's, the Knights of Columbus have provided most of the fundraising for Rancho San Antonio. Within the first three years, they raised enough money to build the chapel, indoor swimming pool, and the first four dormitories on the grounds. The Rancho campus sits on 19 acres, and with the continued support of the Knights of Columbus, today there are: eleven-living units, dinning hall, gymnasium, infirmary, recreation complex, football and baseball field, group home, career resource center, and administration building which currently provides service to 106 boys and their families.

At age 15, Nati arrived at Rancho with big goals for his future. In June, he graduated from UCLA. Along the way, he earned his driver’s license, worked while attending school, made the Dean’s List, served as student body treasurer, and continued building toward what comes next. We’re proud to recognize Nati as the recipient of the 2026 Legacy of Hope Award at this year’s Legacy of Hope Gala. Our youth recently showcased some of the wonderful artwork they created throughout the spring and summer. Along the way, they explored a variety of art mediums, tried new things, and simply enjoyed the experience of creating. We loved seeing their creativity come to life through so many unique pieces!

Some of the most memorable experiences at Rancho happen beyond our campus. Donor support helps make field trips, recreational activities, and community outings possible throughout the year, giving youth opportunities to experience new places and create new memories. New experiences, new memories. A day at the ballpark. An afternoon at the beach. A trip to the fair. For many Rancho youth, these summer outings are first-time experiences. They offer opportunities to explore something new, build connections, gain confidence, and simply enjoy being a kid. Thanks to our donors, experiences like these are possible.

September is National Recovery Month, a time to recognize that recovery is about more than stopping substance use. It is about rebuilding hope, strengthening relationships, finding purpose, and creating meaningful connections.

At Rancho, our Substance Use Disorder and Medical teams walk alongside youth every day as they work toward healthier choices and lasting change. As Johann Hari reminds us, “The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. It is human connection.”

This month, we recognize every young person who continues to show up and do the work, and the dedicated staff who walk beside them. If you, or a young person you care about, would benefit from connecting with Rancho's SUD team, please call 818-882-6400 ext 408

It's incredible to see the progress of the Youth Outpatient Center since breaking ground in January. From the pouring of the foundation, to the installation of the windows, Rancho staff have proudly watched each phase of construction. What started out as a budget and a blueprint for a building, is now transforming into a space where youth and families will find support for years to come. We look forward to welcoming community members when the center opens next Spring.
