Thank you to LAist for covering this important issue. Homelessness among older adults in Los Angeles is rising, with the number of people 65+ experiencing homelessness increasing by more than 17% in one year. At the same time, proposed changes to California’s funding formula could reduce critical resources for older adults in L.A.

Older Angelenos can play a powerful role in local elections — but access matters.

JFSLA’s Valley Storefront Senior Center became an early voting location this week, helping older Angelenos cast their ballots in a familiar, supportive space. For seniors who face transportation challenges or rely on walkers or wheelchairs, bringing voting closer to where they already gather can make a meaningful difference.

We’re grateful to for spotlighting voting access and the voices of older adults in Los Angeles.

This Jewish American Heritage Month, we honor the history of service that helped shape Jewish Los Angeles.

JFSLA began more than 170 years ago as the Hebrew Benevolent Society, founded in 1854. From those early city years to today, JFSLA has grown alongside Los Angeles — adapting to meet changing needs while staying rooted in values of compassion, dignity, and responsibility to one another.

For generations, JFSLA has represented all Los Angeles residents through social services and action: caring for individuals and families, welcoming newcomers, supporting older adults, strengthening families, and serving people of all backgrounds across Los Angeles.

Our history is still alive in the work we do every day.
