As SNAP cuts continue to impact families across our community, access to basic needs and healthcare is more critical than ever. Thanks to donated wheelchairs, individuals with limited mobility can stay connected to services, maintain independence, and navigate daily life with greater ease.

St. Joseph Center partnered with the nonprofit Regalos de Dios (Gifts from God) to provide 25 wheelchairs to individuals in need.

This effort helps remove barriers and strengthen overall health and well-being across our community.

This vital work is supported by L.A. Care Health Plan.

Today, Zócalo Public Square published a new essay by Dr. Ryan J. Smith, President & CEO of St. Joseph Center. He explores the urgent need to fight food insecurity in LA through compassion and dignity.

The piece highlights Ryan’s personal journey and the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, whose commitment to their neighbors inspired the founding of St. Joseph Center nearly 50 years ago.

This vision has pioneered programs, such as our Bread & Roses Café and the Bread & Roses Training Kitchen, a workforce development initiative spearheaded by St. Joseph Center to provide culinary skills and career pathways.

120 sign-ins at St. Joseph Center Food Pantry yesterday. Usually, it is 160.

This dip is a win because it shows more neighbors are successfully accessing SNAP benefits to help fill their tables. While those resources are a vital foundation, they often do not cover the full month.

Today we recognize Cinco de Mayo and the resilience of the Mexican and Latina/o/x communities who are the heart of St. Joseph Center.

We honor this day by working toward a community where everyone is seen, valued, and fed.

This project is funded in part by L.A. Care Health Plan.

May is CalFresh Awareness Month!

The L.A. County Department of Public Social Services is raising awareness of CalFresh and recent policy changes that may affect eligibility, utility assistance, and work requirements. These updates especially affect older adults, people with disabilities, families, veterans, and unhoused neighbors.

Please help us spread the word so eligible individuals can keep their benefits and access food resources.
