The Holiday Enforcement Period is in effect from 6:01 p.m. on 9/4 through 11:59 p.m. on 9/7. Officers will focus on removing impaired drivers from the road.

DUI is not limited to alcohol. Cannabis, prescription medication, and illegal drugs can impair a driver's ability to safely operate a vehicle.

Driving impaired can cost you your license, freedom, or life- or take the life of someone else. Please think twice before driving impaired or getting into a vehicle with an impaired driver.

If you see a suspected impaired driver on the road, call 9-1-1. Your call could save a life.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Central Los Angeles Area, with the assistance of the CHP Southern Division Major Crimes Unit, arrested a driver in connection to a crash caused by reckless driving.
On April 19, 2026, CHP officers responded to a traffic crash on eastbound I-10 (Santa Monica
Freeway) near La Brea Avenue. The investigation determined that a driver’s reckless actions
contributed to the crash, which resulted in another motorist sustaining major injuries.
On August 25, 2026, the CHP Southern Division Major Crimes Unit arrested Noor El Deen Amr Soror, 19, of Anaheim, for 23103 CVC - Felony Reckless Driving causing major injuries.
"This incident is another reminder that reckless driving is not only dangerous, it can have devastating and life-changing consequences. Speeding, unsafe maneuvers, and other reckless behavior behind the wheel put everyone on the roadway at risk," said CHP Central Los Angeles Captain Martin Geller
'Your choices behind the wheel matter. Slow down, drive responsibly, and never put someone else’s life at risk for a few moments of reckless behavior."

The California Highway Patrol continues to make progress in the fight against organized retail crime.

From August 1st–9th, CHP’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force joined more than 100 law enforcement agencies nationwide for the National Organized Retail Crime Blitz, conducting coordinated enforcement operations at businesses, shopping centers, and retail stores across California.

The results:
• 97 suspects arrested, including 8 on felony charges
• More than 8,500 stolen items recovered
• Approximately $1.05 million in stolen merchandise recovered

These efforts build on last year’s success and reflect CHP’s continued commitment to holding organized retail theft suspects accountable and protecting California businesses and communities.

Honoring Senior Volunteer Robert “Bob” Weishan:

The California Highway Patrol mourns the passing of Senior Volunteer Robert “Bob” Weishan, who passed away on July 29, 2026.

Before dedicating 25 years of service to the CHP El Cajon Area, Bob proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War. Deployed to Korea in 1950, Bob fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. As one of the “Frozen Chosin,” Bob was among the Marines who endured brutal conditions and fought their way out of the reservoir during one of the most renowned battles in Marine Corps history.

Bob’s commitment to service continued long after his military career. From 1992 to 2017, he served as a Senior Volunteer with the CHP El Cajon Area. In 1992, Bob helped establish the Senior Volunteer Program in El Cajon, which began as a six-month pilot program to determine whether a Senior Volunteer Program could be successfully implemented statewide.

As we know today, that pilot was a success, and Bob’s dedication helped pave the way for a program that continues to make a meaningful difference across the CHP.

From the battlefield to his community, Bob dedicated his life to serving others. We are grateful for his courage, his service, his commitment and the lasting impact he made on the CHP family and the communities he served.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones, friends, and fellow volunteers during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Bob. Thank you for a lifetime of service. 💙

After 28 years of dedicated service to the people of California, Officer Michael Bryant #15575 has officially signed off for the final time.

We honor a career defined by professionalism, commitment, and an unwavering work ethic. Throughout his time at the Central Los Angeles Area, Officer Bryant earned the respect of his fellow officers and the community through his tireless dedication to public safety. Whether answering calls for service, mentoring fellow officers, or serving with integrity each day he put on the uniform, he consistently exemplified the values of the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Bryant’s impact on the Central Los Angeles Area will be felt for years to come, and his legacy of service will not be forgotten.

From all of us at the California Highway Patrol, Central Los Angeles Area, thank you for your 28 years of honorable service and sacrifice. We wish you and your family a long, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.

Congratulations, Officer Bryant—you’ve certainly earned it.

Today, the California Highway Patrol proudly joined our partners at AAA LAPD Headquarters street_racing_kills, uscracing to stand together with one message:

Street racing and reckless driving have no place on our roadways.

Illegal speed contests, exhibitions of speed, and reckless driving put innocent families, pedestrians, and fellow motorists at risk. What may seem like a few moments of excitement can result in devastating crashes, life-altering injuries, criminal charges, or the loss of a loved one.

Every driver has a responsibility to make safe choices behind the wheel. Slow down, stay focused, obey traffic laws, and remember that arriving safely is always more important than arriving quickly.

The California Highway Patrol remains committed to aggressively enforcing laws against illegal street racing and reckless driving while working alongside our community partners to educate the public and save lives.

Multi-Agency Kidnapping Recovery

On August 5, 2026, at approximately 11:51 hours, the Merced Communication Center (MCC) received a call from Los Angeles Police Department detectives (LAPD) tracking a vehicle with the assistance of OnStar, as the vehicle traveled northbound on I-5. The vehicle contained the suspect in a non custodial parent child abduction, which occurred in Van Nuys area. The units responded and located vehicle on I-5 northbound north of Shields Avenue, at approximately 12:25 hours. Once CHP and unmarked Fresno County Sheriff's Department units were in position behind the vehicle, OnStar shut down the suspect vehicles engine, and the suspect vehicle came to a stop on the right shoulder. A high-risk stop was conducted, and the suspect and two female passengers were taken into custody without incident. The three-year-old child was recovered safe and sound. CHP Los Banos Area personnel, with the assistance of the Los Banos Police Department, provided clothing and food for the three-year-old child while waiting for LAPD to respond. The LAPD flew to the Los Banos Airport and took custody of the missing child. A warrant was issued by LAPD, and the suspect was booked at the Merced County Jail under the warrant.

The California Highway Patrol remains committed to department-wide efforts to protect children and work alongside our law enforcement partners to safely recover missing and abducted children.
