n 1914, the Arts and Crafts innovator Ernest Batchelder received what was his first large commercial commission, The Dutch Chocolate Shop on West Sixth Street in downtown Los Angeles. The site went through many iterations, among them Finney’s Cafeteria, and a health center by Paul Bragg (of Braggs Liquid Aminos). In recent years the murals all but disappeared from our sight, as the walls were cov

ered by plywood and the site served as a shopping arcade. Now the plywood is off and the plans are to return the site to its function of The Dutch Chocolate Shop.
