Real change starts from within. 🙌

Through the FreshStart program at the Los Angeles Mission, individuals like Micheal are given the space to be honest, grow, and begin healing at the root. With access to classes, group sessions, and consistent support, FreshStart focuses on more than the surface. It’s about building a foundation for lasting transformation.

How someone shows up today often reflects the work they’ve done on the inside. Congratulations to Michael for doing the work!

Los Angeles is taking a step toward prioritizing housing and shelter over encampment sweeps, with a new agreement that expands shelter and housing opportunities for people experiencing homelessness across the city.

The updated plan includes nearly 1,100 additional beds and shifts the focus toward helping more people move indoors, recognizing that lasting change starts with stability, support, and access to care.

At the Los Angeles Mission, we see every day how life-changing it can be when someone is met with a safe place to stay, resources, and a path forward. Real solutions require compassion, accountability, and a commitment to helping people rebuild their lives with dignity.

There is still so much work to do, but progress happens when communities, organizations, and leaders continue investing in people, not just clearing spaces.

“Time, resources, it’s all needed, it’s all necessary.”

One of our Volunteer Ambassadors, Loresa, has been volunteering with us for over six years. This is what it looks like when people show up with heart and a commitment to community. At the Los Angeles Mission, that consistency creates a space where our Skid Row neighbors feel seen, supported, and at home.

There’s a place for everyone to get involved, and every bit of support makes a difference. Click the link in our bio to give or sign up to volunteer. 🤝💙

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and lives given in service to our country. Their legacy is one of selflessness and dedication that will never be forgotten.

In their honor, we reflect on the importance of community, compassion, and caring for one another.

In the early years of LA Mission, support did not come from large campaigns or digital outreach. It came from connection.

Leaders and staff went door to door, building relationships and sharing the Mission’s story. Letters were written by hand. Every conversation mattered. Every act of generosity helped keep the doors open.

That foundation still shapes this work today. It continues through every volunteer, every donor, and every moment someone chooses to show up.

This is still going because people show up. Be one of them!🙌 Donate today through the link in our bio.

For many, the hardest battles are the ones no one else can see, the noise, the tension, the constant fight within. Someone can look completely fine on the outside while carrying so much underneath. Teresa, one of our Volunteer Ambassadors, understands first-hand how love and compassion heals on both sides.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re reminded that healing is possible with the right support, patience, and care.

At the Los Angeles Mission, that kind of care is lived out daily. Choosing patience. Choosing compassion. Choosing to meet people where they are, even in the hardest moments. That’s where real transformation begins.

This is what mental health support looks like in action. 🤍

The Sisterhood Salon at the Anne Douglas Center for Women is getting a refresh, creating a space where women can take a moment for themselves and feel cared for. From hair tools to skincare and beauty essentials, each item donated helps shape that experience. 💙

It’s more than a refresh. It’s about restoring confidence, encouraging self-expression, and offering small moments that can make a big difference in how someone feels day to day.

If you’d like to be part of it, visit the link in our bio to shop the wishlist and help bring this space to life. ✨

Mental health support isn’t always easy to access, especially for those navigating homelessness, loss, or rebuilding after crisis.

That’s why having the LA County Department of Mental Health on the ground is so important. By showing up on Skid Row, teams are able to connect individuals to therapy, resources, and support systems they might not otherwise reach, from job opportunities to shelter and recovery services.

Thank you, LA County Department of Mental Health, for partnering with us during our Easter event! We’re grateful for their incredible work and for showing up alongside the Los Angeles Mission to make this support possible.

Sometimes, what makes the biggest difference is simply having someone there to listen. 💬🤝

A little look back at the beautiful Mother’s Day luncheon we shared with the amazing women in our community! 💐

Chef Erik and his team put together a delicious meal with Chicken Rollatini, Roasted Asparagus, Garlic Butter Mashed Potatoes, and Olive Focaccia. We also had a dessert table, iced tea, and strawberry lemonade for everyone to enjoy.

After lunch, guests got creative with a fun diamond art activity, which made the afternoon even more special. ✨ To all the moms, thank you for all that you do every day!

Sometimes, purpose finds you in unexpected moments.

After witnessing a simple act of compassion, Teresa, one of our Volunteer Ambassadors, began searching for a way to give back and found her way to the Los Angeles Mission.

Through a prayer walk, she stepped into something new, and the experience stayed with her. It was powerful, emotional, and led to a continued commitment to serve.

Today, Teresa shows up regularly, offering not just meals, but presence and care. In seeking purpose, she found it here.
