Emergency Network Los Angeles (ENLA) ENLA is the VOAD serving LA County. Fostering the 4 Cs of emergency management: Cooperation, Communication, Coordination, and Collaboration.

ENLA is California non profit, charitable corporation under IRS section 501(c)(3) The organization is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives from CBOs and national disaster agencies, including American Red Cross and The Salvation Army, and non voting government representatives. ENLA is the Los Angeles County unit of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NV

OAD) and the Southern California VOAD. Committees make up the primary framework within which ENLA CBOs are organized. Committees currently established or in development include the following: Communications; Emotional and Spiritual Care, Mass Care, Development. New committees may be established as CBOs come together to form them. ENLA is a model of how CBOs can network during non-disaster times in order to better cooperate and help each other during and following emergencies and disasters. As a result of this cooperation, communities in need will be served more quickly and more effectively.

National CPR & AED Awareness Week takes place every year from June 1 – 7. Throughout this week, we recognize the importance of initiating CPR and using an AED as a response to cardiac arrest. More than 350,000 people suffer cardiac arrest annually, but less than 10% survive.

Every second counts when responding to cardiac arrest. If you see someone suddenly collapse, become unresponsive, and stop breathing, call or ask someone to call 9-1-1, send someone for an AED, and begin CPR. Even if you aren’t trained, doing chest compressions (pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest) is better than doing nothing. In many cases, the 9-1-1 operator can talk you through CPR.

It’s JUNE, and that means FIFA World Cup soccer matches - and the arrival of 1000s of visitors - are just days away. A LOT will be happening in the City of Los Angeles and nearby. This is why you should take extreme heat seriously. ➡️ Extreme heat kills more people every year than any other weather event in the U.S.

The climate crisis is causing heat waves to become more frequent, intense and longer lasting.

On Global Heat Action Day, we can take action to prepare. Protect yourself and prevent heat-related illnesses and death by following these tips:

- Verify that your air conditioning at home is working properly.
- If your home is too hot, find a public place with air conditioning like a library to stay cool.
- Check on loved ones and neighbors who may live alone and don’t have air conditioning.

Taking these steps now can help keep you and your loved ones safe when temperatures rise. ❤️
