HOM is officially CORES Certified!! ✅

We are pleased to announce that we are officially a Certified Organization for Resident Engagement & Services!

The CORES Certification recognizes organizations that have developed a robust commitment, capacity, and competency in providing resident services coordination in affordable rental housing - a testament to the work we do here at Housing on Merit. Additionally, this certification unlocks eligibility for ERS financing to help us continue providing high quality services for our residents!

📚That’s a wrap on HOM’s book club on “Palaces for the People”! 📚In our discussion today we discussed the ways that we utilize social infrastructure in our day to day lives and how it applies to our work in affordable housing.

Klinenberg’s work provided great insight into the state of US social infrastructure and dives deep into how creating a space for community members to gather can mean the difference between life, death, inequality, and polarization.

The US House of Representatives passed their FY23 appropriations to provide $63 billion for HUD programs. Though, this is not yet a win for housing as we wait for Senate and Presidential approval of the budget.

We can advocate for housing programs nationwide by contacting your state senators and signing the national letter by the CHCDF!

Rose Ty, HOM’s Executive Assistant, explains why this quote caught her eye:
“As a teenager, my friends and I spent many after school hours as at our local library waiting to get picked up by our parents, who were often working late. To us, it was a home base outside of home and school. The library was always a safe and welcoming environment for us to gather and interact with members of the community or other students we wouldn’t normally run into. Having this social infrastructure was a great opportunity for me to foster bonds with my friends and my community. If libraries didn’t exist, I can’t imagine the missed opportunity I would have had as a growing young adult!🌱”

While the budget invests an additional $2.9 billion into affordable housing production and homeownership opportunities, the Roadmap Home 2030 outlines the need for $17.9 billion annual investment in housing to meet the scale of need.

As recipients of the Qualcomm Foundation’s generous $10,000 grant, Housing on Merit was invited to the annual Qualcomm SDEGC Pitch Event to present for a chance to receive an additional $5,000 in funding. Daniel Rubin, our Planning and Programming Coordinator, and Shanyu Zhou, Qualcomm Senior Engineer, gave an amazing pitch on the work we do at Housing on Merit to create a bridge to affordable housing for all.

It was a great opportunity to learn more about other San Diego non-profits that are working to address the diverse needs of our community. Congratulations to !
