Five years ago, as Peace Over Violence marked our 50th anniversary, we looked back at where we began and the people who helped build this movement.

Today, as we celebrate 55 years of Peace Over Violence, that legacy continues.

Since 1971, Peace Over Violence has been a pioneering force in the movement to end sexual and domestic violence—standing with survivors, strengthening families, advancing prevention, and building communities rooted in dignity, safety, and justice.

This year, we celebrate Legacy, Love, and Leadership—honoring the generations of staff, advocates, volunteers, survivors, leaders, and community partners who built this legacy; those carrying the work forward today; and the next generation of changemakers who will shape its future.

On October 14, we’ll come together at Lunch Over Violence to celebrate this extraordinary milestone and invest in the work still ahead.

Celebrating 10 Years at Peace Over Violence!

Today, we celebrate Jasmine Barnes , Director of Training, Education & Empowerment Self-Defense, and 10 years of dedication to Peace Over Violence.

Throughout the past decade, Jasmine has contributed to POV in so many meaningful ways. Her compassion, commitment, and heart for this work have been present throughout her journey. She has supported survivors, strengthened our programs, shared her knowledge with staff and community partners, and continued to grow as a leader.

Those of us who have had the opportunity to work closely with Jasmine have seen firsthand her dedication, growth, and genuine care for the people and communities we serve. Her leadership today reflects the experience, knowledge, and passion she has built over her 10 years at POV.

Jasmine, thank you for everything you have given to POV and for continuing to lead with heart, purpose, and compassion.

For 55 years, Peace Over Violence has been here for survivors of sexual and partner violence and their families. Through every kind of change, we have stayed. That is what trust looks like: showing up, year after year, for the people who need us.

Our Fall 2026 Counselor Advocate Training is officially underway! We are welcoming a new cohort of trainees that are taking part in this CALOES-certified Dual Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Training. This training teaches them new skills on crisis intervention, trauma-informed response, legal, law enforcement and medical procedures, and so much more!

We are so excited to work with this new cohort of trainees and are so grateful to them for sharing their time, passion and dedication to supporting survivors in our community! Welcome to the Fall 2026 Counselor Advocate Trainees!

Peace Over Violence encourages caring and compassionate individuals from the diverse communities of LA County to become trauma informed Counselor Advocates working directly with survivors of sexual and domestic violence.

Upon completion of the Counselor Advocate training, you will be part of the Peace Over Violence Intervention Division’s Emergency Response Team, volunteering for either of the following programs: 24-Hour Hotline & Emergency Response Team and Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).

Training begins Wednesday, Aug. 12
Graduation Ceremony: Saturday, Oct. 3

Confidence & Empowerment: Learn how to protect yourselves and feel empowered in various situations. Peace Over Violence is offering a free empowerment self-defense training, open to all ages 16+. Build your resiliency and confidence and learn how to implement safety for every step in life. Participants will walk away with a toolbox of new skills including assertive techniques, tips for awareness of yourself, others and your surroundings, as well as some easy-to-use physical protection methods.
