To help deter illegal street racing and street takeovers, new traffic deterrents were installed this weekend at several hotspot intersections in our unincorporated communities:

📍Rosecrans Avenue & Main Street
📍Rosecrans Avenue & San Pedro Street
📍Compton Blvd. & Main Street
📍Compton Blvd. & San Pedro Street

These improvements are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and protect the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Thank you to the residents who continue to report concerns and help identify areas in need of attention. Keeping our streets safe is a shared responsibility, and together, we can create safer communities for everyone

CalFresh Update: Starting June 1, some CalFresh recipients may see changes to their eligibility requirements. During the application or renewal process, certain participants will be asked to meet work-related requirements, including work registration and, for some adults, additional rules known as Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) requirements.

LA County’s Department of Public Social Services has created to helpful webpage to support CalFresh recipients in navigating these changes as a result of the Trump Administration's H.R.1 law: https://dpss.lacounty.gov/en/food/calfresh/work-rules.html

As Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month comes to an end we are proud to recognize this year’s 2nd District AANHPI Heritage Month honoree, the Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC)!

For over 50 years, KYCC has provided critical and inclusive services for families, youth and small businesses throughout our district and LA County. This past year KYCC served over 23,700 children and families, planted 850 trees and distributed thousands of dollars in stipends for youth internships.

We are proud to partner with KYCC in improving outcomes for residents and making supportive services accessible. To learn more about KYCC and their work, visit kyccla.org

We celebrated big wins in Florence-Firestone! Through the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity RENOVATE Facade Improvement Program, two neighborhood anchors — La Mexicana Meat Market and 99 Cents Store — received major facade improvements that will help strengthen and revitalize the corridor for years to come.

Florence-Firestone has always been defined by its strength, culture, entrepreneurship, and resilience. Today’s over $330,000 investment along Firestone Boulevard reflects our commitment to ensuring our unincorporated communities receive the care, attention, and economic investment they deserve.

For this month’s 2nd District Racial Justice Learning Exchange, community members joined us for “ : How Digital Bias Shapes What We Believe” — an engaging and eye-opening conversation on how algorithms, misinformation, and racial bias influence the content we consume every day.

Together, with the help of our amazing guest speaker Nora Benavidez of Free Press, we explored the real-world impact of digital bias and shared practical tools to help participants recognize and challenge harmful narratives online.

A special thank you to West LA College for hosting and partnering with us on this event, and to the organizations and County departments that provided onsite resources:

Delete The Divide
Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health
L.A. County Registrar-Recorder
The Ford
And the Special Needs Network Food Truck!
