At this same hour, 5:46 AM local time, 25 years ago... 9/11. For most born before this century, the September 11, 2001, terror attacks likely stand among a handful of "where were you when that happened" moments. Most devastating to the friends and families of thousands whose lives were lost, 9/11's effects cast a long shadow across America and the world. Fear, distrust, and anxiety loomed. Air travelers were stranded for days, far from home and forced to adapt. We salute the heroes and mourn those lost. Also, 9/11 serves as a stark reminder that not all disasters are "natural." Accidents, negligence, and human hatred can bring unannounced threats and dangers. Keeping a mindset of preparedness and an awareness of potential threats is more critical today than ever. This anniversary, invites you to remember, reflect, and learn.

Hundreds more FREE cool spots are available across the City - and beyond - depending on where you live, work, attend school. Check on your people during heatwaves, especially those at higher risk for heat-related illnesses, like:
- Adults over 65
- Children under 2
- People with existing medical conditions
- Those without access to air conditioning
- Outdoor workers

HOT and MUGGY. . . two words not normally seen in the same sentence about City of Los Angeles weather. Tuesday was just a "taste" per the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) projections, so for TODAY (Wednesday) and at least thru Thursday, TEN dedicated cooling centers at Los Angeles City Parks facilities will open at 10 AM (until 9 PM). These supplement HUNDREDS of free and COOL Los Angeles Public Library and other parks buildings always available to provide shelter from the heat, during regular hours.
