As Trump’s H.R. 1 Billionaires First bill begins to take hold in our state, we see that while CA gets sicker and poorer, the 0.01% get ... to celebrate. Californians can’t even afford to save for rent without getting kicked off Medi-Cal. See more at: https://bit.ly/CaliforniaataCrossroads.

As it voted for a historic end to pretext police stops, the Los Angeles City Council also beefed up funding to extract police from mental health calls, replacing them with unarmed, trained clinicians. Since 2024, the teams handled more than 20,000 calls. This is what worked for!

Trained clinicians with the city’s Unarmed Model of Crisis Response have handled over 20,000 calls since 2024.

The Wednesday vote by the City of Los Angeles council to end LAPD's pretextual stops practice was truly historic. Check out coverage on : https://bit.ly/4uvqgUA

In a unanimous vote Wednesday, the Los Angeles City Council moved to end the Police Department’s use of pretextual stops, a law enforcement tactic long criticized by civil rights advocates who say it disproportionately targets Black and Latino residents. Lindsey Peña reports May 6, 2026.

Yesterday, the LA City Council voted to ban LAPD's practice of pretextual stops, which has caused so much damage to Black and brown communities in our city. John Kim detailed some of the damage and celebrated the courage of the decision. Now, the Police Commission must follow through.

Two months ago, Brian Jointer, a father of boys, told City of Los Angeles council members of his harrowing encounter with LAPD. Today at 10 a.m., the full council is set to decide whether to ban pretextual stops like the one Brian and his sons experienced. Join us to tell the council: these stops harm our communities and waste public dollars. They have nothing to do with public safety. BAN THE STOPS.

✨ Join BlackECE, Californians Together, Catalyst California, and Early Edge California for the second session of their 3-part webinar series, “Honoring Home Language: Black English, History, and Early Literacy Development” on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 1 pm (PT).

This session will examine the historical roots of and its connection to early literacy development. Centering community knowledge and parent–child relationships, the conversation will highlight how honoring home language is grounded in the wisdom of families and cultural insiders and shapes how young children come to understand language and learning.

The webinar features a dynamic conversation with a special guest speaker, moderated by Dr. Ashley Williams from Black Californians United for Early Care and Education, and draws from family and community listening sessions to connect history, language, and literacy.
