Today, we remember the Chicano Moratorium and honor the thousands who marched in East Los Angeles on August 29, 1970, calling for peace, justice, and an end to the disproportionate impact of the Vietnam War on Chicano communities.

The Moratorium reflected the courage of a community demanding to be heard and treated with dignity, respect, and equality. Its legacy reminds us of the power of civic participation, representation, and standing together in the pursuit of justice.

LACDP honors those who marched, organized, and sacrificed to create a better future for the generations that followed. Their work continues to inspire us today.

Part Two: Summer Legislator Series🏛️

Summer recess is a time to stay connected with constituents, reflect on the work of the legislative session, and recharge for what’s ahead. ☀️

In Part Two of our Legislator Series, we’re highlighting Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (Sasha Renée Pérez (薩莎 佩雷斯)) of Senate District 25 and her work on SB 995, the Masuma Khan Justice Act.

The bill would establish stronger statewide health and safety inspections and accountability for large involuntary residential facilities, including privately operated immigration detention facilities. The goal is simple: if detention facilities operate in California, they should meet California’s standards for safety, dignity, and humane treatment.

Even during summer recess, Senator Pérez continues connecting with the communities she represents while making time to step back, recharge, and prepare for the work ahead.

Today, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day and honor the women who have fought—and continue to fight—for equal opportunity, equal representation, and a stronger voice in our communities. 💜

From the ballot box to the halls of the White House, women are leading, organizing, and making a difference every day.
There is still work to do, but progress is possible when we lift each other up and make sure every woman has a seat at the table.

Happy Women’s Equality Day! ✊🏽💜

Last night’s debate made one thing clear: Los Angeles needs steady, experienced leadership that delivers for working Angelenos.
Karen Bass has spent her career fighting for safer communities, more affordable housing, stronger neighborhoods, and opportunity for every Angeleno. She knows the challenges our city faces—and she has the experience and determination to keep moving Los Angeles forward.
LACDP is proud to stand with Mayor Karen Bass and support her continued leadership for the City of Los Angeles.
Let’s keep moving LA forward. 🌴💙

Last Saturday, the LACDP Team attended the Boyle Heights Resource Fair, helping to distribute supplies for the community–from backpacks and school supplies to recovery resources!

It was an electric day, and we look forward to coming back to Boyle Heights. A special thanks to Karen Bass , Mark González and Ysabel Jurado, vendors and all of our members who volunteered their time!

91 years ago, the Social Security Act was signed into law, creating a promise of economic security that generations of Americans have relied on.

Today, Social Security supports millions of seniors, people with disabilities, and families across the country.

On this anniversary, we recognize the progress made and celebrate the millions of people who benefit from this vital program. At the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting and strengthening Social Security for generations to come—and standing with the communities who depend on it.
