October is Fire Prevention Month, a great time to practice safe charging.

Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Charge on a hard, flat surface, and stop using a device if its battery feels hot. Unplug devices when fully charged. Charge e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside when possible. On a flight, keep portable chargers in sight; don’t charge devices in overhead compartments or e-cigarettes and vapes on the plane.

The 21st Annual Taste of Soul Festival offered an opportunity to connect with the Los Angeles community through food, music, culture, and resources along Crenshaw Boulevard.

Representing the Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (MVA), Veterans Service Representative II Cherry Villanueva connected with community members and local leaders, including Second District Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna, and Los Angeles County Director of Personnel Lisa Garrett.

Veteran peers turn shared experiences into meaningful connections, reminding fellow veterans they never have to navigate life alone.

The West Los Angeles VA celebrated Global Peer Specialist Celebration Day with food, raffles, conversation, and a beekeeping demonstration in the Japanese Garden.

Beyond the celebration, dedicated peers with the Los Angeles County Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN) continue making a difference by offering understanding without judgment and guidance from someone who's been there.
