Thank you to everyone who joined LAND and the Gabrielino-Tongva Springs Foundation at our recent woodblock printing workshop led by artists River Tikwi Garza (Tongva) and Joel Garcia (Huichol). The artists encouraged attendees to use their own designs, or existing ones, to create prints, postcards, and greeting cards inspired by the nature at Kuruvungna Village Springs.

Both artists also spoke about the importance of our bird and animal relatives, as well as the idea of being a responsible guest on the land we call home.

If you missed this workshop, join us at a future Endless Wellspring event by tapping the link in our bio to see our full schedule.

Plus, learn more about the uses of edible native plants, and enjoy food that incorporates acorn and chia, key ingredients in Indigenous cuisine in the area.

Admission is free with RSVP at the link in our bio.

This series is made possible in part by the LA County Department of Arts and Culture () as part of Creative Recovery LA, an initiative funded by the American Rescue Plan. Generous support provided by Art of Recovery, an initiative of the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs (), and the West Los Angeles Sawtelle Neighborhood Council () through a Neighborhood Purpose Grant. Join us on Sunday, July 13 at 5PM for the opening of Hannah Huntley’s new installation, “Sea Fauna Follies,” at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater.

A 2025 Mohn LAND grant recipient, Hannah uses painting, sculpture, puppetry, and video to invoke a sense of comfort and nostalgia. “Sea Fauna Follies” is a sculptural installation that manifests an underwater utopia where symbiotic relationships between sea creatures reflect the profound need for communal dynamics.

The project highlights how organisms of diverse abilities and strengths collaborate—not for mere survival, but to revel in collective joy and expression. Comprised of three kinetic sculptures and a central, static piece, “Sea Fauna Follies” was created using 3D modeling software and 3D printing.

We hope to see you there; RSVP at the link in our bio. Graphic by Hannah Huntley.

“Sea Fauna Follies” will be on view from July 13 through August 31, 2025, during all Bob Baker Marionette Theater performances. Additional viewings available Tues-Fri, 10AM-4PM, by appointment (also at the link in our bio).

This Saturday, June 21, we will gather at the Exposition Park Rose Garden for a closing celebration of Lizette Hernández’s “LAND DREAMS.”

A 2024 Mohn LAND grantee, Hernández will reflect on the sculptures and the significance of the location to her art practice. Peter Haas will join the artist to speak about the history of the garden, and what rose varietals visitors may encounter there.

For this project, Hernández invited workshop participants to create small objects that imagined positive visions of possible futures and “new ways of living.” These works are incorporated within seven sculptures by Lizette, all created to be in dialogue with the park’s roses and historic fountain.

We hope this gathering will be a welcome respite for those who need it, and feel comfortable attending. Attendance is free with RSVP at the link in our bio.

“LAND DREAMS” is commissioned by Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) and organized by .barcena and .gusin, LAND curators-at-large.

LA is our home.

All of the work that LAND does aims to connect people and places through art. NONE OF THIS would be possible without the many immigrant and undocumented communities in Los Angeles.

The actions taken by the current administration to instill fear and division, and limit individual and artistic freedoms, is abhorrent. But Los Angeles is strong and united.

Los Angeles Nomadic Division is driven by a deep sense of purpose. The word “Division” in our name highlights that we are part of a larger whole—the sprawling city of Los Angeles and all its intersecting communities.

To our friends in LA and beyond: Keep showing up, keep resisting, keep protecting one another. For those that are able, please support the local organizations that are supporting those most impacted. Here are some of the organizations we’ve been looking to for resources and ways to help:

Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) and the Gabrielino-Tongva Springs Foundation are thrilled to present “Endless Wellspring,” a series of free public programs this summer at Kuruvungna Village Springs celebrating Tongva art and culture.

Meaning “a place where we are in the sun,” Kuruvungna is the site of a natural spring and an ancestral Tongva village in Tovaangar, present-day Los Angeles. Stewarded by the Gabrielino-Tongva Springs Foundation, the two-acre site features ponds, gardens, and a cultural center.

Organized by artist Mercedes Dorame (.dorame) and Christopher Mangum-James (), LAND’s deputy director, “Endless Wellspring” is centered around the theme of regeneration, bringing together Native artists and educators to engage with the natural elements and ongoing life and history of Kuruvungna. From hands-on art making workshops to a special music performance, and guided garden tours, we look forward to seeing you at the Springs this summer.

For the first event in the series, join us on Saturday, June 28, from 11AM – 12PM for a special walkthrough on the history of Kuruvungna led by Angie Behrns, founder of the Gabrielino-Tongva Springs Foundation, with Mercedes Dorame.

Details on all “Endless Wellspring” programs can be found on LAND’s website. Link in bio.

Last week, a small group of LAND artists and supporters gathered to celebrate the recipients of the 2024 and 2025 Mohn LAND Grants. The evening featured a conversation between LAND Director Laura Hyatt and the 2024 cohort of artists: Carlos Agredano (), Lizette Hernández (._), Vincent Enrique Hernandez (.e.hernandez), and Daid Roy (.jpg).

We also celebrated our 2025 recipients: Susan Aparicio (), Woohee Cho (), Hannah Huntley (), and yétúndé ọlágbajú (.tunde). A five-year initiative, the Mohn LAND grants support each artist’s first major public project.

Two projects that were supported by Mohn LAND Grants are currently on view now. Visit Lizette’s “LAND DREAMS” at the Exposition Park Rose Garden through June 21. “Fume,” a nomadic sculpture by Carlos, featured activations on select Mondays and will have a closing ceremony on Sunday, June 1.

Bring a blanket and join us in Elysian Park on Sunday, June 1 from 12-3PM for the closing celebration of “Fume.” For four months, Mohn LAND Grant recipient Carlos Agredano has taken his nomadic sculpture, which monitors and collects ambient air quality data, to freeway-adjacent communities across Los Angeles. At each location, Agredano has organized installations and activations with other artists who have a personal relationship to the nearby communities.

To commemorate the end of the project, we’ll gather for a conversation between Agredano and artist Cielo Saucedo ().

Free to attend with RSVP at the link in our bio.
