🚧 StreetsLA crews are hard at work improving the public right-of-way across Council District 11!

In Venice, the Revitalize Rose Avenue project is delivering 14,000 square feet of new sidewalk, nine ADA access ramps, enhanced crosswalk lighting, new pedestrian connections to Frederick Street Park, and 18,000 square feet of landscaping.

Over in Westchester, crews have also installed new bollards along Manchester Avenue between Sepulveda Boulevard and Emerson Avenue.

From safer crossings to more accessible sidewalks, these improvements are helping create safer, more connected neighborhoods.

With an extreme heat warning in effect through this Friday, the Department of Public Works reminds you to use the City of LA’s free resources to keep cool.

In addition to the dedicated cooling centers throughout the City, every branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is available for cooling and shelter, and Recreation and Parks facilities function as pet-friendly cooling centers.

Remember to drink water and stay in air-conditioned spaces as much as possible. Check on older adults, children, and neighbors, and call 311 for more info about cooling centers near you.

Happy 818 Day! 🌴☀️

Today we celebrate the San Fernando Valley and the work our bureaus do every day across the 818, from maintaining streets and streetlights to keeping neighborhoods clean, protecting our environment, and investing in infrastructure for the future.

It’s a great day to visit one of Public Works’ hidden gems: The Japanese Garden at the Donald C. Tillman Water Reclamation Plant in Van Nuys. 🌿💧 The beautiful 6.5-acre garden showcases how recycled water and public infrastructure can create an extraordinary space.

While you’re there, explore Lake Balboa and the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve.

The 818 is an important part of what makes Los Angeles great, and Public Works is proud to serve it every day.

Earlier this week, City leaders welcomed congressional staff to the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant. Board of Public Works Vice President Jenny Chávez and LA Sanitation & Environment | Public Works Executive Director and General Manager Joone Kim-Lopez were on hand to highlight Pure Water Los Angeles (PWLA). 💧

PWLA will help create a safe, sustainable local water supply, with Phase 1A producing up to 230 million gallons of purified recycled water per day.

Last week Board of Public Works President Steve Sungin Kang joined Mayor Karen Bass , CD10 Councilwoman Heather Hutt , Atto Property Development, and Korean American community leaders today to celebrate the grand opening of a new 80-unit affordable housing development in Koreatown, where nearly 90% of residents are renters. The grand opening marks the first affordable housing project in Koreatown to be completed under Mayor Bass’ Executive Directive 1 (ED1).

This is especially meaningful to President Kang, who is a Koreatown resident. In his remarks, he said creating more affordable housing for this community, isn’t simply about adding units—it’s about helping families, seniors, and working Angelenos remain in the neighborhood they call home.

Today, the Board of Public Works had the privilege of honoring Paul Racs on his retirement after 39 years of dedicated service to the City of Los Angeles as Director of the LACityOCB

For nearly four decades, Paul has been a tireless champion for cleaner, greener, and more beautiful neighborhoods, leaving a lasting impact on communities across our city. His leadership, passion for public service, and commitment to civic pride have inspired generations of City employees and volunteers alike.

Thank you, Paul, for your extraordinary career and unwavering dedication to the people of Los Angeles. Wishing you a well-earned and fulfilling retirement!

Today, the Los Angeles City Council confirmed two historic appointments made by Mayor Karen Bass

Congratulations to Joone Kim-Lopez, confirmed as Director and General Manager of LA Sanitation & Environment | Public Works and Crystal Lee, confirmed as City Engineer at the LA Bureau of Engineering

Crystal Lee is the first woman to serve as City Engineer in Los Angeles history, and Joone Kim-Lopez is the first Korean American to lead LA Sanitation

Congratulations on these well-deserved appointments!
