Today, we celebrate the life, legacy and lasting impact of San Fernando native and former Councilwoman Cindy Montaรฑez with the unveiling of a beautiful new mural at Gridley-Montaรฑez Dual Language Academy.

A daughter of San Fernando, Ms. Montaรฑez dedicated her life to serving the community she called home. Her legacy now lives on along 8th Street, where her portrait is part of a mural that celebrates the Valleyโ€™s natural beauty, rich history and the community she cared so deeply about.

A special thank you to muralist Juan Pablo โ€œJPโ€ Reyes for bringing this vision to life, to Board Member Kelly Gonezโ€™s office for helping launch this project, and to the more than 70 community members who came together to make their mark on this incredible piece of San Fernando history.

Cindy Montaรฑezโ€™s legacy is now part of the landscape she loved, inspiring the next generation to serve, lead and make a difference in the community they call home.

TK-12 students can ride Metro buses and trains at no cost with a GoPass. Request your activation code using your LAUSD student account and activate your GoPass to ride at no cost. Hereโ€™s how to get started:

Use your LAUSD student account to request your 2026-27 GoPass activation code online.
