We oppose the Los Angeles County "Safer S*x" Ordinance, which requires adult performers to use condoms, dental dams, gloves, goggles and other barrier protection on adult film sets. d go to local s*xual health education & outreach. Inspection and enforcement of this costly government overreach will be tasked to local county officials, while funding for other, needed local services and programs is being slashed. There is no statistical or scientific evidence that mandating barrier protection use on adult production sets will curb or slow the spread of STIs in the general public or in the performer population. In fact, there also is no evidence of within the adult production industry that would indicate a necessity for this mandate. The adult film performer populations is rigorously tested for STIs, and is the most tested workforce on earth - even more than many healthcare or food service workers. Between 2008 and 2011, there have been more than 6,400 new HIV infections in L.A. County; only two of those were adult industry performers that did not contract the infection on an adult set. The ballot measure funded solely by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) - a big-money, third party interest that wants YOU to spend your money on unnecessary government overreach. AHF has spent in excess of $6 million dollars to support this misguided legislation.
