Wonderland Avenue Elementary is both a neighborhood school serving the Laurel Canyon neighborhood as well a gifted/high ability magnet which provides an accelerated program for gifted students who reside throughout Los Angeles. Based on the belief that learners have multiple intelligences and a wide range of skills, abilities, interests, and needs, a home school education provides students with in
terdisciplinary learning opportunities across the curriculum. Our teachers, who work in close collaboration with their grade level partners, engage students in units of study integrating the core curriculum, visual and performing arts, personal expression, writing, and literature study to provide an education that develops the whole child while emphasizing creativity, problem solving, and cooperative learning. Wonderland Gifted/High Ability Magnet Center enrolls 166 third through fifth grade students from across the city of Los Angeles. As part of LAUSD’s student integration program and the district’s Gifted and Talented Education program, our magnet provides these gifted students with an academically accelerated education that emphasizes complexity and differentiated learning.
