Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind

Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind TLC provides Residential and Creative Arts Programs for adults and children with disabilities in the San Fernando Valley. Mr. & Mrs.

From fine arts and music to dance and beyond, our programs are built around creativity, community, and belonging. Therapeutic Living & Learning Centers (TLC) was founded by Bernice and Seymour Pearlman in 1975 at a time when programs and services for their multi-disabled blind son were nonexistent. Pearlman, along with a small group of other families, were determined that the status quo could not continue. Through their diligence and determination they made it happen by personally signing the note on TLC's first home. The mission of TLC is to provide for the lifetime needs of individuals with multiple-disabilities and blindness.

At TLC, direct support is not just a job title. It is a shared commitment that runs through everything we do. πŸ’™

This DSP Recognition Week we are shining a light on the Direct Support Professionals who show up every single day with compassion, patience and genuine love for the individuals they serve.

We are proud to honor the incredible people who make our Residential Program so much more than a place to live.

Some careers follow a straight path. Atousa's grew alongside the people she serves. πŸ’™βœ¨

Atousa Bastamnejad joined TLC in 2005 as an Instructor Aide. Twenty-one years later she leads our entire Creative Arts Program as its supervisor.

Along the way she has built deep connections, mentored colleagues, and shown up wherever she was needed most.

Her story is a powerful reminder of what is possible when passion meets purpose. Read her full spotlight a: https://tlc4blind.org/atousa-staff-spotlight/ πŸ’›

Words that never get old. πŸŒŸπŸ’™

This quote from Mother Teresa captures something we believe deeply at TLC. Every individual brings something unique and irreplaceable to our community. When we create spaces where different abilities, backgrounds, and perspectives come together, great things happen.

That is the heart of everything we do. 🎨🎭🎡

Ever wonder what it feels like to be a real filmmaker? 🎬 In our Filmmaking & Scriptwriting class, kids do not just learn about making movies. They actually make one.

From developing a story and writing a script to directing, acting, and operating the boom mic, every student takes on a real production role. By the end of the program, each student walks away with a completed short film of their own. 🍿

This hands-on class is part of TLC's Children's Creative Arts Program in Reseda, brought to life through our partnership with Film Set Media

It is open to children of all backgrounds and abilities and designed to build confidence, creativity, and real storytelling skills.

Registration is open now! Head to www.tlc4blind.org/programs/film-digital-media-classes-for-kids/ to learn more and apply. πŸŽ₯

Another standing ovation for the TLC Jazz Band! 🎷✨

Matthew Wilson on drums and David Rusch on piano and vocals brought the house down at AvantGarde Senior Living and Memory Care in Tarzana, filling the room with joy and beautiful music for residents and staff alike.

Thank you to Music Instructor John Della Franco, Music Director Jorge Luis Uzcategui, and Activity Director Claudia G. Garcia for making moments like these possible.

Music has a way of bringing people together and this was no exception. πŸŽΆπŸ’™
