Wilshire Center

Wilshire Center http://wilshirecenter.com By the 1960s, Wilshire Boulevard had become an important commercial market dominated by high-rise office buildings.

Wilshire Center originally developed as a fashionable area of exclusive apartments, world-class department stores, and entertainment venues in the 1920s and 1930s. The are subsequently fell into economic decline as commerce and the area's affluent population migrated to the Westside, and the occurrence of the civil disturbances of 1992 physically and economically blighted the community. In respons

e, the Wilshire Center Business Improvement District (WCBID) and the CRA/LA WCK Project Area were formed in 1995 with the goals of improving the quality of life in the district, keeping the area clean and safe, promoting business expansion, highlighting the mix of housing options, and developing public improvements. The area is now undergoing a renaissance with a multi-cultural population dominated by a thriving Korean-American community. New transit-oriented mixed-use developments, major civic improvements, and an influx of businesses are all signs of the strengthening economic base.
