The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors declared June as Silicosis Awareness Month.

Thinking about remodeling or building your home? You may want to rethink your countertop choice to protect workers’ health.

Quartz, also known as engineered or artificial stone contain more than 90% crystalline silica. When cut, harmful silica dust is released that affect workers’ health when inhaled causing silicosis, a serious lung disease.

Before you decide, talk to your contractor or designer about safer alternatives with little to no silica options that are just as beautiful and affordable.
