A little Earth Month recap as we move through May 🌎💚

Throughout April, our community came together across 17 events focused on volunteerism, education, outreach, and environmental stewardship. Together, 300+ volunteers contributed 1,000+ hours of service in support of healthier, greener communities.

From clearing brush for wildfire resiliency and caring for school and community gardens, to planting native species and supporting local green spaces, every effort reflected what’s possible when people show up for each other and the planet. We’re deeply grateful to our 13 partners, volunteers, educators, and community members who made this month so impactful. Thank you for continuing to build community-centered environmental action with us long after Earth Month ends. 🌱✨

On May 16, our community came together in El Sereno to help build a home garden for families displaced by the 2025 Eaton Fire. With the help of 13 volunteers, we cleared nearly 90+ gallons of high fire-risk invasive species across 600 sq. ft. of land at an affordable housing complex located in a severe fire zone. Together, we also spread 40+ cubic feet of mulch to help restore soil that had sat compacted and unused for over 20 years. This space is now one step closer to becoming a safe, regenerative garden for residents rebuilding after loss. Thank you to everyone who showed up with care, energy, and commitment to community resilience. đź’š

L.A. Works was so grateful to be part of such a joyful and inspiring day at YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles Healthy Kids Day at the LA Memorial Coliseum đź’™

From sports and STEM activities to crafts and community connection, it was incredible to see so many kids and families come together to celebrate play, learning, and wellness. We loved connecting with families about Camp FAVE and inviting visitors to contribute to our gratitude chain by sharing what they’re thankful for. Some of the sweetest moments came from children turning to their parents and saying, “I’m grateful for you.” We’re thankful to have shared in such a meaningful day filled with joy, gratitude, and community.
