Su***de is a leading cause of death in the perinatal period and yet, it’s one of the hardest conversations for providers to start.

MMHN’s training “My Baby Would Be Better Off Without Me” was created to change that. Led by Gabrielle Kaufman, MA, LPCC, PMH-C, this course equips healthcare and birth professionals with the clinical tools to recognize, assess, and respond to suicidal ideation in the perinatal period with confidence, not hesitation.

You’ll learn how to:

→ Identify how suicidal feelings show up during pregnancy and postpartum

→ Recognize risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors

→ Use the Columbia Su***de Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) in your practice

→ Understand why asking directly about su***de is essential — not harmful

Meet Zoya Khan (she/her)

Zoya Khan started Raya Health because she believes doulas and the families they serve should focus on care — not administrative tasks.

As CEO and co-founder of Raya Health, Zoya built a company that helps Medi-Cal members get doula care covered by insurance at no cost to them, while taking the paperwork and billing burden completely off doulas’ plates.

Before founding Raya, she invested in digital and mental health companies at Civilization Ventures and served as the youngest Editor-in-Chief of The Health Care Blog.

Her work is a direct answer to one of the most pressing questions in perinatal care: how do we make sure doulas can actually do their jobs? And how do we make sure families, all families, access the support they need?

It’s signed. 💜 SB 626 is now California law🎉

Yesterday, Governor Newsom signed SB 626, strengthening what happens after perinatal mental health screening: follow-up, pathways to evaluation and care, care coordination, and real accountability across California’s health system.

Because screening has to lead somewhere.

This win belongs to the survivors who shared their stories, the advocates who showed up at the Capitol, and every family who believed something better was possible. 67 of those stories went to the Governor’s desk on September 1.

Today, they’re part of California history.

Maternal Mental Health NOW is proud to have co-sponsored SB 626 alongside @[CA Perinatal Wellness Alliance], Black Women for Wellness Action Project, the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health, and Postpartum Support International–California, with deep gratitude to Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas for championing it.

This is a milestone, not a finish line. Implementation starts now, and we’ll keep showing up.
