Education can open doors to new possibilities. 📚

Cal State LA’s Prison Graduation Initiative is bringing university instruction to San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, where 34 students in the inaugural cohort are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Liberal Studies. The 21-month program is supported by San Quentin’s new Learning Center.

The future of Ethnic Studies starts now at Cal State LA brings scholars and community leaders together to discuss the future of Ethnic Studies.💛

The College of Ethnic Studies hosted the 54th Annual Association for Ethnic Studies Conference welcoming scholars and community members to campus Oct. 15-17. The three-day event was themed "For the People: A Loving Defense for Ethnic Studies," which featured presentations, workshops and discussions.

Graduate students presented research on Black History and how it is represented in museums. Actor Ryan Jamaal Swain and Toledo Museum of Art's Rhonda Sewell also led a panel discussion on Black History, storytelling and social change.

A new chapter of opportunity and education begins at San Quentin. 🎓

Governor Newsom welcomed 's first bachelor's degree cohort this week, helping students build new possibilities for themselves, their families and their communities.

An inaugural cohort of 34 students pursuing bachelor's degrees through Cal State LA's Prison Graduation Initiative will embark on a 21-month Liberal Studies program that brings university instruction into San Quentin's new Learning Center, supporting students as they work toward their academic goals and prepare for life after incarceration.

From smuggling drugs inside swallowed balloons, to recruiting young people through social media, Cal State LA professor Gabriel Ferreyra takes us beyond the Hollywood version of drug trafficking and into the policy decisions made by the U.S. In episode two of “Office Hours” we explore the surprising realities of drug cartels and the tactics they use to further their aims.
