🌈 Happy Pride Month from Bright Star Schools 🌈

This month—and all year—we honor the LGBTQ+ members of our community who remind us of the value of taking pride in our identities, our stories, and showing up authentically to achieve our fullest potential.

At Bright Star, we understand the importance of belonging and identity, and we continue building schools where every student and team member feels respected, supported, and able to fully be themselves. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and creating inclusive communities ensures all students thrive. This Pride Month, we continue to uplift and celebrate every voice in our kohyang!

As we close out Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re honored to spotlight Sammy Lee, an Olympic diver, physician, and trailblazer. The son of Korean immigrants, Lee overcame racial discrimination to become the first Asian American man to win an Olympic gold medal and the first diver to successfully defend an Olympic title.

At Bright Star Schools, we value the many perspectives, experiences, and contributions of our Asian American community that help make our schools stronger. We are grateful for the impact they have on our students, families, and team members, and we celebrate them not only this month, but throughout the year.

Thank you for joining us in honoring the leaders, innovators, and pioneers who continue to inspire future generations! The stories we share today help shape the possibilities of tomorrow. Happy AAPI Heritage Month!

Stella Elementary Charter Academy is looking B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! 🖌️

Our Lionesses' campus got a beautification upgrade thanks to over 150 volunteers from Big Sunday and Bellwether coming together to add more joy to our school. These dedicated volunteers transformed our campus by:

🎨 Painting a breathtaking 500-foot mural representative of our scholars' cultures
🖼️ Meticulously creating a stunning tiled mosaic
📚 Organizing and leveling our library, a favorite location of our students
🪴 Planting a beautiful and tranquil garden for our young minds to enjoy

Our scholars also got involved in this project by picking up some paintbrushes and learning all about the importance of community. We are especially grateful to Dr. Mark Jutabha, our Community School Manager, and Principal Gene Castro, whose vision and coordination brought this idea to life. We are also appreciative of the artist, Raoul, for designing this memorable mural that has now become part of our Stella Elementary experience.

Great and BRIGHT things happen when we partner with our kohyang!

🪄 Who says magic doesn't exist? Our Lions at Valor Academy High School are proof that it does! Members of our leadership team recently attended the California School Recognition Program Awards Ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel to celebrate Valor Academy High School being recognized as a ✨ 2026 California Distinguished School. ✨

Valor High has received this honor because of its exemplary achievements, demonstrating outstanding academic performance and significant academic progress for all students. The joyful ceremony included musical performances, a meeting with our State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, and a special message from two VERY special guests: Mickey and Minnie Mouse!

The next time you visit Valor Academy High, we invite you to enjoy our newly installed California Distinguished School seal at the top of our entrance building. It shines bright just as our Lions do! Congrats, Valor Academy High School! 🎉

Our next Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month spotlight honors Leah Hing, a true aviation pioneer! ✈️

Leah Hing was a first-generation Chinese American who became the first U.S.-born Chinese American woman to earn a pilot’s license in the early 1930s. She later supported Civil Air Patrol efforts during World War II and was a member of the Ninety-Nines, the women aviators organization founded by Amelia Earhart.

Leah’s story reflects the courage and determination that have helped shape our nation’s history. At Bright Star Schools, we are proud to honor the Asian American and Pacific Islander voices whose stories continue to inspire, challenge, and shape our communities. Happy AAPI Heritage Month!

Shining a light on another inspiring leader this Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

Our second spotlight honors Dr. Margaret Chung, the first Chinese American woman to become a physician in the United States. She opened a medical clinic in San Francisco’s Chinatown in the 1920s, supported U.S. troops during World War II, and built a groundbreaking career despite facing discrimination.

We celebrate the stories, achievements, and lasting impact of our Asian American and Pacific Islander community, whose voices and contributions continue to shape the world around us. At Bright Star, these stories matter not only during AAPI Heritage Month, but in the learning, conversations, and communities we build all year long. Happy AAPI Heritage Month!
