Dear fellow international students,

ICE’s new policy restraining the flexibility of attending classes remotely for international students regardless of health issues or travel constraints has put many in a very difficult situation. Although USC is optimistic about the ability to offer some classes in a hybrid format, we understand the many tough decisions you are forced to make. As friends and allies, APIC condemns ICE’s recent actions and is committed to using our voices and providing support where we can. Below is a link to a masterpost of resources that provides information and ways to take action for both international and domestic students.

Dear Price community,

We are members of the Asian and Asian American community at Price who stand with the Black Community. We recognize the injustices of white supremacy. We acknowledge specifically the racism against Black people. We are calling on our fellow Asian and Asian American peers to use our current positions and platforms to take action in affecting change.

The recent pandemic and the racist remarks of the president show that we are all a part of the fight for equality. That experience parallels the constant and systemic persecution of the Black community. We must recognize their plight at this moment. The Black communities' fight for justice has greatly benefitted Asians and Asian Americans. For example, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was crucial for allowing many in the Asian community to come to the United States. Furthermore, the Voting Rights Act gave us a voice in the electoral process. Many of our rights come from the political and emotional labor of the civil rights movement, and now it is time for us to put in the work for a more just society.

As a graduate school community, we must understand and dismantle the systems of white supremacy. All too often, Asians and Asian Americans have been co-opted for the goals of white supremacy, placing a wedge between us and other people of color. Some members of our community have unfortunately internalized the tenets of white supremacy, as seen by the adoption of the model minority myth and the pervasiveness of colorism. We must take stock of the daily instances of anti-Blackness in our community and call it out when we see it. It is no longer acceptable to be standing on the sidelines. Our time for action is now. We call on our fellow graduate school and Asian and Asian American community to stand as one and say, Black Lives Matter.

Remaining silent is not an option. We cannot simply stand by and watch as police brutality and racial injustice continue to occur throughout this nation. It is our duty to not only speak out against anti-black hate, but take action to help our fellow minorities as well. There are plenty of ways to help the Black Lives Matter movement even if you don’t have the financial means to donate or are unable to protest.
