As Military Appreciation Month comes to a close, we honor those who serve—and the moment everything changes. 🇺🇸

Each day at the Military Entrance Processing Station in El Segundo, young Americans raise their right hand and take the Oath of Enlistment, transitioning from civilian life to military service. It’s a moment filled with pride, uncertainty and powerful goodbyes. From that very first step, the American Red Cross is there. ❤️

Our Service to the Armed Forces volunteers welcome new recruits and their families, offering guidance, connection and reassurance before they leave for basic training. 🤝 And long after they go, the Red Cross remains a constant—providing 24/7 emergency communications, resources and confidential support through the Hero Care Network. 📞

Because service doesn’t happen alone—and neither does support.

This Military Appreciation Month and every day, we stand with service members, caregivers and families across the country and around the world. 🌎

June 6, 1944 — D‑Day.

A day of enormous courage, devastating loss, and one of the most complex military operations in history. But even amid the chaos on the beaches of Normandy, the laws of war still mattered.

Join the American Red Cross for a special IHL 101 session exploring how International Humanitarian Law applied during the largest amphibious invasion ever carried out.

Senior Counsel for IHL Thomas Harper will take us behind the history to examine:
-How the rules of war guided operations on D‑Day
-What protections existed for civilians and those hors de combat
-How these principles continue to shape military conduct today

📅 Friday, June 5, 2026
🕘 9:00–10:00 AM | 5:00–6:00 PM (Encore)

Honor the 82nd anniversary of D‑Day by learning how humanity and the law intersected on one of history’s most defining days.

As National Nurses Month comes to a close, we want to extend one more special appreciation to the dedicated nurses who serve our communities — especially longtime Red Cross volunteer Karen Wells, as she relocates out of the LA region.

Since 2009, Karen has been an incredible part of our team, supporting everything from flu clinics and health fairs to volunteer health programs. As a nurse, she has brought compassion, professionalism and steady leadership to every space she’s served. She’s helped organize countless events and played a key role in keeping our team connected along the way.

While we’ll certainly miss her here in Los Angeles, we’re grateful for all she’s contributed over the years and wish her nothing but the best in what’s ahead!

Thank you, Karen, for everything you’ve done for the Red Cross and the people we serve. ❤️

📢 We’re facing a dangerous drop in scheduled appointments. Donors of all blood types are urgently needed to help patients who are counting on lifesaving blood following accidents, during surgeries, and for treatment of conditions such as sickle cell disease and cancer.

Help us keep the blood and platelet supply strong this summer by scheduling an appointment to give through the link in our bio.

Service members and their families carry a heavy load! 💪❤️

Through the American Red Cross Mindful Movement program, volunteers like Inès de Truchis are helping military members and their loved ones find relief from stress through gentle movement, breathwork and meditation.

A proud member of a military family herself, Inès brings both personal connection and passion to every session, meeting participants where they are and helping them build tools for everyday resiliency.

This May and all year long, we honor and support those who serve — and the families who stand beside them.

Celebrating a Lifetime of Service ❤️

After a 58-year nursing career, Debbie Sutton didn’t slow down — she found a new way to serve.

For more than two decades as an American Red Cross volunteer nurse, Debbie deployed to disasters across the country, helping provide care, comfort and support to people facing some of their hardest moments. Even into her 80s, she continued showing up, from shelters to community events, always with her signature compassion (and sometimes in a vintage 1942 nurse’s uniform).

Now 87, Debbie reminds us what it means to truly put people at the center of everything you do.

“You can have everything you’re looking for if you volunteer… it offers you opportunities to do pretty much what your heart desires.”

During Nurses Month and as Debbie retires from volunteering, we honor Debbie’s extraordinary legacy and the countless lives she’s touched. 💙

Many people don’t know what the Red Cross does, until they need it.

Nancy Castles has spent decades changing that, one conversation at a time, meeting people where they are and helping them feel understood in their most difficult moments.

During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, her story is a reminder that representation isn’t just about being seen — it’s about building trust, breaking down barriers and making it easier for people to accept help when they need it most.
