After 50 years of serving survivors and families across Los Angeles County, East Los Angeles Women’s Center (ELAWC) dedicated its new 10,000-square-foot headquarters with the unveiling of “Mujeres Poderosas en el Jardín del Futuro” (“Powerful Women in the Garden of the Future”) — a new mural 🎨🖌️ by multidisciplinary, world-renowned Chicana artist Yolanda González.
The mural on the facade of the building represents resilience, empowerment, and collective healing and honors survivors and generations of community members who have shaped ELAWC’s legacy. The mural was created through an inclusive process with participation from survivors, promotoras, staff, and community members.
“I honor the mujeres poderosas, the women of power. We forge forward with love, compassion, and strength. The roads behind us guide us yet never define who we are becoming.” — Yolanda González
“Together, we are building more than a facility; we are creating a place for healing and hope — a forever home for our community,” says Barbara Kappos, Executive Director. ✨🧡
