The stage is set for an inspiring evening of creativity, storytelling, and community.

Veterans participating in the New Directions program at the West Los Angeles VA will present their annual theatrical production this Saturday, June 13, at 8:00 p.m. at the Brentwood School Theater. This year’s original play, Nashville ’76, was written by and will be performed by Veterans through a unique partnership between New Directions and the Imagination Workshop.

The program provides Veterans with an opportunity to build meaningful connections, share their experiences, and express themselves through the performing arts. Their dedication, talent, and creativity are at the heart of this special production.

The performance is free and open to the public. Join us in supporting these Veteran artists and celebrating the power of storytelling to bring people together.

On May 17-20, at the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in San Diego, one physician and five nurses from VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) traveled with their own trained therapy dogs to support more than 6,000 conference attendees, and the response was overwhelming.

More than 1,500 people lined up to meet and pet the six therapy dogs, spreading smiles, comfort, and connection throughout the event.

This heartwarming experience is a continuation of the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Service and Therapy Dog Program, highlighting the healing power of the human–animal bond.

The Antelope Valley VA Clinic proudly hosted a food and clothing giveaway for Veterans on April 30, bringing together community partners and resources to support those who served.

The event, coordinated by VA’s Center for Development & Civic Engagement (CDCE) and clinic staff, provided clothing, non-perishable food items, home goods, and access to valuable resources for Veteran attendees. A free lunch was also served to the 75 Veterans who participated. They hope to make it a regular event going forward!

This event wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of Village for Vets, Warner Bros. Pictures, Soldiers’ Angels, Baby2Baby, and the Foundation for Women Warriors.

Veterans now have two more healthy and delicious reasons to stop by the Peer Center at West LA VA on Thursdays! Inside the Peer Center kitchen, Veterans can enjoy a free, healthy meal, while the patio offers fresh produce to take home.

Every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Cooking for Whole Health serves a complimentary homemade meal for Veterans. Dr. Peter Capone-Newton, a physician with Whole Health, brings the ingredients, prepares the food, and leaves a warm meal ready to serve. Meals are available to all Veterans on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to offering a free meal, Cooking for Whole Health also serves as a nutrition and healthy cooking class that is open to Veteran participation.

Veterans can also visit the Peer Center Farm Stand every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the patio, where free fresh produce is available. Offerings may include strawberries, zucchini, asparagus, radishes, squash, and more — all organically grown and harvested the same day from the Veterans Garden.

Fresh food, healthy choices, and Veteran wellness — the perfect ingredients for a healthier community.
