Our two Student Advocates to the Regents (StAR’s), Taige and Nammi, spoke today at the Regents meeting in support of students broadly.
Tai is prioritizing uplifting demands that the UC divest from corporations such as Blackstone that perpetuate housing and overall economic inequality for students, workers, and the people as the largest corporate landlord in the United States. The UC currently invests around $8.6 Billion in Blackstone through the general endowment fund and UC Retirement fund.
Nammi is prioritizing advocacy for stronger, compassionate mental health response and resources from the university known as CAPS CORE. These programs meet students where they’re at before any sort of mental health issues reach a breaking point, and may help alleviate current issues students experience with CAPS due to high wait times, short staffing, and limited sessions available each academic year.
Thank you to our amazing student advocates for stepping up and continuing to push the University to listen to the demands of students and properly invest into the very people that help make the UC.
