Hispanic Heritage Month uplifts and celebrates the histories, cultures, and countless contributions of people whose ancestors originated from Central America, South America, Spain, and the Caribbean.

We are honored to spotlight the pioneers, change-makers, and glass-ceiling-breakers of the Hispanic and Latino communities in fields related to the Vista mission.

We’re so pleased to share the impact of Vista RISE (Substance Use Disorder Services) in Santa Monica-Malibu USD schools. This picture of the team and update below from Team Lead, Jason Sobel captures how crucial substance use education and support are to students. We would like to thank our grant partner Saint John’s Health Center Foundation for their support in making this program possible.

In Jason’s words:

Vista RISE’s first year serving SMMUSD students has been an exciting success! At the heart of that success is the care and support we provide, reflected in the experiences and engagement of our participants.

In feedback surveys, students consistently shared that they felt welcomed, respected, and supported, and described valuing the collaborative nature of our services and the opportunity to work toward personal goals that were meaningful to them.

Beyond individual substance use counseling, our team also engaged students through educational and prevention focused classroom presentations, expanding our reach and allowing us to connect with students beyond those receiving direct services. We’re grateful for the help that has made this work possible and for the opportunity to become a valuable part of the on-campus student support network.

As we continue building strong partnerships throughout the school community, we’re excited to keep expanding our reach and providing substance use counseling, education, and early intervention services for SMMUSD students.

National Su***de Prevention Month provides all of us with an opportunity to shine an encouraging light on this topic that affects millions, and send a message that help is available, and su***de can be prevented.

Su***de prevention remains a universal challenge. Su***de is among the leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. It is responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one su***de every 40 seconds.

Clinicians from Vista Del Mar’s two Mental Health Divisions (Outpatient Services and Family Service of Santa Monica) work tirelessly to provide accessible mental health services to all those in need. In the aftermath of a su***de, members of the community can count on Family Service of Santa Monica to provide free emergency counseling to help those affected work towards healing.

To learn more about Vista’s services please contact: VDM Outpatient Center (310) 836-1223, Intake ext 500
or Family Service of Santa Monica (310) 451-9747, and ask for Intake.
