The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has been mobilizing resources to fight hunger in Los Angeles County for 50 years. To support the Food Bank’s vision that no one goes hungry in Los Angeles County, food and grocery products are distributed through a network of partner agencies and other Food Bank programs. The Food Bank also energizes the community to get involved and support hunger relief, especially through volunteerism, and conducts nutrition education campaigns and advocates for public policies that benefit people served and improve nutrition security. The Food Bank is rated at the highest level by Candid and Charity Navigator, and 96% of all revenue goes to programs.

For many working families, having a job doesn’t necessarily mean having enough to cover every household expense.

“Everyone who comes through that we have on a regular basis, they all have jobs,” shared Virginia Beaboa, Director of Operations at AfricActive Foundation. “They all have resources. They don’t have enough.”

Every Saturday, Food Bank partner agency africActive helps bridge that gap by providing nutritious food to approximately 250 to 300 neighbors in the Mid-City/West Adams community.

What began during the early days of the pandemic has become an ongoing commitment to making sure neighbors can access the food they need with dignity and compassion.

28.9 million pounds of food rescued in one year!

Through the Food Bank’s Extra Helpings Program, perfectly good food from grocery stores and other donors is redirected to nearby partner agencies instead of going to waste.

In 2025, 523 food donors and 161 partner agencies helped rescue more than 28.9 million pounds of nutritious, perishable and prepared food to help feed neighbors across LA County.

One of those partners is We Help in Long Beach, which picks up food from a local grocery store and helps get it onto the tables of neighbors who need it most.
