Warrior Games

Warrior Games Welcome to the official Warrior Games page, where you’ll find coverage on the adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill, and injured service members.

The Department of Defense Warrior Games is an annual event, first held in 2010, that celebrates the resiliency and dedication of wounded, ill, and injured active duty and veteran U.S. military service members. Hundreds of elite athletes, including those from international allied nations, compete in adaptive sporting events such as wheelchair basketball, cycling, indoor rowing, and wheelchair rugby

, among others. The DoD Warrior Games serve as a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded warriors by providing them exposure to adaptive sports. Participation in the Warrior Games represents the culmination of a service member’s involvement in an adaptive sports program and demonstrates the incredible potential of wounded warriors through competitive sports.

They’re the friendships formed through shared challenges, unforgettable moments,
and a community that understands the journey. On Friendship Day, we celebrate the bonds
built at the Warrior Games that last long after the competition ends. ❤️

Warrior Wednesday 💪

In 2017, while deployed in Italy, Gregory Walker began experiencing issues with his leg. After returning stateside, an MRI revealed a cancerous tumor in his foot, leading to chemotherapy and the amputation of his leg in November 2019.

He has competed in wheelchair rugby for Team Air Force in the 2023 Warrior Games, and also competed for Team U.S. at the 2023 Invictus Games in rowing, wheelchair basketball, and track and field. He continues to move forward in a positive way, spending time at the Adaptive Training Facility in Dallas, TX, where he is training to become a Paralympic sprinter.

Today he is being honored by Building Homes for Heroes at their Welcome Home Celebration in Fate, TX surrounded by friends, family, and supporters.

Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Gene Calanctoc thought his life was over after a motorcycle accident resulted in the loss of his leg.

Then he discovered the Warrior Games.

They may be small, but that Warrior spirit is already BIG. ❤️

A little friendly racing on the track, a lot of smiles, and memories we’ll carry with us long after the Warrior Games. 🇺🇸

Warrior Wednesday 💪

For Staff Sgt. Xavier Rodgers, the Warrior Games are one part of a much bigger journey.

His focus has always been on becoming stronger than he was yesterday and proving to himself that his injury doesn’t define what he’s capable of. Along the way, he’s found purpose in connecting with fellow competitors, learning from their experiences, and encouraging others to keep moving forward.

“There’s really no limit. Human bodies are amazing.”

Every journey looks different, but resilience has a way of bringing people together.
