On Friday, the LA City Council voted 11–2 to approve a $2.7 billion expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center. I voted no because the plan is unrealistic, unaffordable, and puts our city’s finances at severe risk. The timeline for construction is extremely risky, and the cost will consume every new dollar of the City’s budget for decades, leaving nothing for public safety, housing, or basic services.
