September is National Preparedness Month, and at Team Rubicon we know what disaster looks like up close. We have seen what being ready can change, and what happens when people are not.

All month, we'll be sharing preparedness tips to help you get yourself, your people, your pets, and your home ready before disaster is at your door.

Start here: discover your disaster personality. Take our National Preparedness Month quiz and find out if you're The Panic Buyer, Prepared in Theory, or somewhere in between. Then tag the friend you already know the answer for.

Downed trees, blocked roads, and Greyshirt volunteers who haven't stopped.

Mid-August, Tropical Storm Lala moved across the islands causing devastation from O'ahu to Maui. Weeks later, our teams on the ground are still in it.

Our sawyer crews are working through the wreckage cutting downed trees, hauling debris, and reopening access for communities and the work still ahead.

"All that's left is chimneys."

That is how one Greyshirt described the neighborhood after the Aspen Acres Fire burned through Colorado. Block after block, foundations and chimneys.

Homeowners came back anyway. Greyshirts came with them, clearing ash and rubble and helping people take back their ground.

This is what neighbors do, and it only happens because volunteers and supporters keep showing up for communities they may never see themselves. Wildfire is a cycle and Team Rubicon works all of it: mitigation before, response during, recovery long after.

When the 2025 Independence Day floods swept through Kerrville, Texas, Celena's home was left with extensive mold, ruined plumbing, and severe structural damage. Despite these conditions, Celena stayed, refusing to give up on her home.

Through our Long-Term Recovery program, our team has completed critical repairs. Greyshirt volunteers mucked out the home followed by contractors who tackled mold remediation, structural fixes, and plumbing updates. This September, Celena moves back into a safe, secure home.

As communities across Hawai’i clean up from Tropical Storm Lala, Team Rubicon is on the ground doing what we do best: serving those in need.

From conducting welfare checks and clearing vital access routes on the Big Island to heading up muck-outs, roof tarping, and sawyer operations on O’ahu, our volunteers are working alongside local partners to help the community recover.

Our commitment to the islands runs deep. Since 2014, we've conducted 35 operations in Hawai’i, spanning disaster response to wildfire mitigation across Hawai’i, Maui, O’ahu, and Kaua’i.

We’re built for the tough jobs, but we don’t do it alone. Support our mission today: https://trusa.co/4xmtL1H

In Ohio, our Greyshirt volunteers are on the ground helping homeowners take the first steps toward recovery.

Our veteran-led volunteer force steps up on a survivor’s worst day, but we can't fuel these operations alone.

Here is how you can support disaster response in Ohio and across the Midwest:

▪️ Donate: https://trusa.co/4qj0y4I

▪️ Give your United Airlines miles: https://trusa.co/3PQI7qv

▪️ Sign up as a Greyshirt volunteer: https://trusa.co/41i0jLF

Every dollar, every mile, and every volunteer makes a difference for these communities.

World Humanitarian Day was established to honor the 22 aid workers lost in the 2003 Canal Hotel bombing in Baghdad, a devastating reminder that bringing help to others often means operating in environments of severe risk.

At Team Rubicon, we know that true readiness isn't about being first into the storm. It takes discipline to choose to wait until it is safe to enter a disaster zone before deploying. Once conditions allow us to step in, our Greyshirts get to work. By placing safety at the core of our operations, we ensure every volunteer returns home safely to their families.

To our Greyshirts and humanitarians around the world who serve courageously: thank you.

Team Rubicon’s Quick Reaction Force is boots-on-the-ground in Hawaii right now, responding to Tropical Storm Lala.

Our Greyshirt volunteers are providing critical support where it’s needed most: conducting welfare checks on previously trapped residents, route clearance on streets and in neighborhoods, and infrastructure assistance.

With two new tropical disturbances developing east of Hawaii, our teams are ready to respond, if and when additional communities are impacted.
