Join us for a special visit with author Jasmine Fang! She will be reading from her book "Beneath the Same Round Moon" about a family celebrating the mid-Autumn Festival together, even when miles apart. The book will be presented in English and Mandarin, along with songs and a simple craft! The book will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

Children need to build essential skills early on to become successful readers. The library’s early learning children’s areas provides opportunities that support the five simple practices to get every child ready to read: Talking, Singing, Reading, Writing, and Playing.

Playing comes in different forms:
Active Play: When children engage in balance and climbing activities, they are developing a physical skill known as "crossing the midline" which is the ability to move their eyes or body parts across the middle of their bodies.

Imaginative Play: Storytelling and play-acting encourage children to explore different perspectives, share ideas, and engage with the world through their own narratives. Imaginative play develops important social skills including communication.

Quiet Play and Pre-Reading Activities develop comprehension and decoding skills. Listening to stories also improves vocabulary; children who are read to daily hear more than one million words by the time they enter Kindergarten, which sets them up for reading success!

You may be familiar with California Native ornamental plants, but did you know that there are Mediterranean climates around the world that have the same growing conditions as we have here in Santa Clara County? They produce many beautiful ornamentals that grow very well here and do not need much water and little or no fertilizer. October and November are the very best months for putting these plants in the ground. Come and join UC Master Gardener Martha Carpenter to learn about beautiful, hardy, ornamental plants from other Mediterranean climates, as well as some California natives, that would be great additions to your waterwise garden!

Local sustainable artist Gigi Farmer will guide you along the way using fabric scraps, layering, folding, building up, and binding your pages to create your own unique mini treasure book.

Virtual Author Talk: Daniel Kraus - an online event

Join us for a talk with Daniel Kraus about his new novel, The Sixth Nik, and celebrate its release with an online event that dives into the dark mysteries of deep space. He won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and is the author and co-screenwriter of the upcoming major movie release, Whalefall.

The book follows Sisilla, a young girl on a living ship facing strange crew members, a dangerous mission, and a planet hiding a terrifying secret. To survive, she must challenge her fate and face the unknown.
