💙 EVERYONE HAS TOUGH DAYS.

Maybe you are stressed about school, friendships, relationships, social media, your mental health, or substance use. Whatever you are going through, the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is here for you — anytime, anywhere.

📱 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU REACH OUT TO 988?

You can call, text, or chat with a 988 counselor 24/7.

When you reach out:

• You will connect with a real person who cares.

• A trained 988 counselor will listen without judgment and help guide the conversation, even if you do not know where to start.

• You do not have to give your name or share anything you are not ready to share.

• You can get help for yourself, a friend, or a loved one.

• You do not have to be in crisis to reach out.

Your feelings matter — whether they feel big or small. Sometimes, simply having someone there to listen can make all the difference.

💙 If you are having a tough day, reach out. You do not have to go through it alone.

Be Here Day is Tuesday, September 8! 🏫

In this video, High School Principal Jill Gonzales reminds us why being at school matters. Every day at school is an opportunity to learn, connect with friends and teachers, build important skills, and stay on track academically.

Let’s make every day count—and work toward our goal of 100% attendance on Be Here Day!

📅 Every day counts. Every grade matters.

From elementary school through high school, regular attendance helps students stay connected, keep up with learning, and build habits that support their success.

As kids get older and become more independent, families still play an important role in helping them get to school and stay on track.

Here’s why showing up matters:

✅ Missing just 2 days a month adds up. That’s about 10% of the school year and can make it harder for students to keep up academically.

✅ Attendance patterns matter early. By 6th grade, chronic absence is one of the strongest warning signs that a student may not graduate on time.

✅ Absences can be a sign that something else is going on. Struggling with schoolwork, friendship issues, bullying, stress, or other challenges can sometimes show up as difficulty getting to school.

✅ Showing up is a life skill. Regular attendance helps students build routines and habits they’ll carry into work, college, and adulthood.

A few things families can do:

🗣️ Talk about attendance. Let your child know that going to school is important and that you're there to help when something makes it difficult.

😴 Keep routines consistent. A regular bedtime, morning routine, and time for homework can make school days easier.

🩺 Plan appointments when you can. Whenever possible, schedule routine medical and dental appointments outside of school hours.

And if getting to school is hard, please reach out. Transportation, health concerns, housing, food, family circumstances, or other challenges can all affect attendance. You don't have to figure it out alone. Your student's teacher, school counselor, and principals are here to help.

You can also check your child's attendance through PowerSchool and reach out to their teacher or school staff with questions.

Every day counts. And we're in this together. 💚

💜 Overdose Awareness Day — August 31

As parents and caregivers, we can help strengthen our community by staying informed, talking openly about substance use, and being prepared to respond when someone needs help.

A few things to know:

🔹 An opioid overdose can cause someone to become unresponsive, have slow or stopped breathing, or make choking or gurgling sounds.

🔹 When in doubt, treat it like an overdose. Acting quickly can save a life.

🔹 Naloxone (Narcan) can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose and help restore breathing while emergency help is on the way.

🔹 Anyone can carry and administer Narcan—it does not require medical training.

📍 Free Narcan is available throughout Los Alamos and White Rock.
