Thursday for EMS Week 2026 was Save-A-Life Day, focused on CPR and Stop the Bleed education. Crews spent time reviewing proper wound packing techniques alongside the EMS Chief and EMS Captain.
To keep things engaging, some teams competed to see who could correctly pack a wound the fastest, while others tested their knowledge with wound packing trivia for a chance to win prizes.
Great work by all crews continuing to sharpen these critical, life-saving skills.

Yesterday, Los Alamos County officially broke ground on the replacement of Fire Station #4, marking an exciting milestone for the future of emergency response in our community.

This much-needed project will modernize Fire Station #4 with a new LEED Gold Certified facility designed to better support our first responders. The new station will accommodate up to 10 personnel and include dedicated space for EMS, Public Education, Honor Guard, and Wildland Fire operations.

As the Countyโ€™s first fully electric facility, the new station will feature energy-efficient technology and solar power, supporting Los Alamos Countyโ€™s Climate Action Plan goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

By building adjacent to the current station, Fire Station #4 will remain operational throughout construction while minimizing land impact.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this important milestone as we continue investing in the future of public safety.

Safety Day for EMS Week is underway! Crews rotated through a hands-on challenge focused on proper handwashing techniques.
EMS Captain Kevin Kamplain kicked things off with a discussion on common infectious diseases encountered on EMS calls, then added a twistโ€”applying a special lotion to simulate contamination. Crews were tasked with washing their hands thoroughly, followed by a black light inspection to see how well they removed the โ€œcontaminants.โ€
All in the name of promoting safety and protecting our providers.
Members even had a chance to win some great fire and EMS-themed prizes for participation and for having the cleanest hands!
Even the Duty Battalion Chief, Ray Gandara, and Training Chief Aaron McNiff joined in on the fun this week!
