DoD has not issued a mandate for retirees and others with legacy paper-based Uniformed Services identification (USID) cards to have them replaced by Dec. 31, 2025. Any articles publicizing this deadline are inaccurate.

Legacy paper-based USID cards with extended expiration dates issued to specific populations – such as Reserve retirees and former members eligible for retired pay and benefits at age 60 – as well as cards with indefinite expiration dates issued to retirees, dependents over age 65 and permanently incapacitated dependents, will all remain valid until DoD determines when those legacy paper-based cards will be terminated.

Sponsors are encouraged to access their identification (ID) card records via the ID Card Office Online at https://idco.dmdc.osd.mil/idco/. Use the “My Profile” option to ensure the record reflects both current mailing and email addresses in advance of those communications.
Additionally, individuals with extended or indefinite (INDEF) expiration dates on their legacy paper-based USID card may replace those cards with a plastic-based USID card at their convenience. To do this:
• Visit the ID Card Office Online website (https://idco.dmdc.osd.mil/idco/), select “Continue” under the “Family ID Cards” header and follow the prompts for Online USID Renewal. Note: It may be necessary to create a myAuth account for logon.
• Visit the RAPIDS ID Card Office Locator website at https://idco.dmdc.osd.mil/idco/locator to find the closest ID card office and schedule an appointment using the “Schedule an Appointment” option under the “More Site Info” header for any of the sites presented in the search results.

Well, it looks like Facebook has stopped adding pages to our page. Holding my breath though. I have had to return multiple times a month for many years to clear them off. Just went through three days and they were acceptable. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Notice - as the Administrative person on here I want to let you know that FB is back at adding posts to the page again. I will have to check it more often again.

Gray Area Retirees are members who served in the Guard or Reserve, are qualified for retired pay, and have retired from their service (stopped drilling) but are not yet at the age where they can start receiving retired pay.

ALL Gray Area service members must apply for military retired pay to receive it.

Too many (and I mean many thousands in just the Army) are reaching the eligible age but haven’t applied for it. Some, unfortunately, are already deceased.

I would like some help spreading the word that Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) automatically creates a Gray Area Retiree "Future Retiree" pay account when each member of EVERY Service transitions from an active (drilling) pay status to the Retired Reserve.

These accounts now exist in myPay for all Services, BUT THE MEMBER HAS TO GO INTO MYPAY AND UPDATE IT WITH A CIVILIAN EMAIL AND CONFIRM THE MAILING ADDRESS. Only about 25% have done so.

Why is this important??

DFAS and your Service will stay in touch with you during your Gray Area time -- policies and programs change, and you'll want to know about those --and they will remind you when and how and where to apply for the retired pay you've earned.

And when life events happen --marriages, divorces, deaths, births, adoptions -- those impact your benefits, especially the Reserve Component Survivor Benefit Plan that over 90% of you have (and may not even realize it).

To learn more, read this DFAS webpage: https://www.dfas.mil/RetiredMilitary/plan/Gray-Area-Retirees/

Hi, this is your Admin person. I will continue to endeavor to clear off “Suggestions for you” stuff but know that FB allows hundreds of these and it’s a lot of time to go through and snooze them. I don’t have knowledge about any mechanism to only have the things we are following show. I am the spouse of your former Safety Officer, Jeff Harris. Since the unit had already lost the ability to access the FB page for the Brigade, I took this on to keep it alive. Looking for a replacement. Please contact if you are interested and have thr Company Commander’s blessing.
