I feel sure by now most of Mitchell County,Tx is aware we are in a level two flood alert for this afternoon through tomorrow morning.
It may or may not happen, but as most locals know we have several high water crossings across our county, and several here in the Loraine area, of which we have made several water rescues in the past.. We urge you not to drive into water, although it may appear just shallow water running across the road, it may well be water 5 to 6 foot deep and will wash a car away... Please remember the rule.... turn around... dont drown !! The LVFD will be watching these crossings for high water rise and will try to barricade off any troubled spots.... If you live in the Loraine area, and water starts to run, please do not use either service road between mile marker 223 and 224. This is where the creeks run under Interstate 20 and will be running deep water if we get heavy rain.... Please be safe and stay alert.

They are warning HIGH FIRE DANGER today with 50 mph wind gust.. which is also bad news for 18 wheelers and motor homes, which often tend to blow over on their sides.... this could be an active day for first responders. PLEASE DO NOT BURN ANYTHING TODAY ! Even the smallest fire can become major in seconds in these winds.. Remember a 50 mph wind gust can push even a small vehicle over into the other lane unexpectedly , y'all be safe today..

there is a one mile stretch of ground in far Northern Mitchell county where 3 counties meet.. Mitchell , Scurry and Nolan. We dont get many calls to that area, but when we do it looks like a Fire truck convention because all three county FD's are called out. Always have plenty help in that one spot. Glad there were no accidents because of smoke visibility.

Loraine fire has 1 truck and 2 firemen enroute to Texas Panhandle to help with the massive fire burning there. Prayers for all first responders and all the people in the path of this fire. Last report I heard 64 homes were lost, i dont know what the number is now.

The LVFD is sending our prayers and thoughts to the students and families in Loraine. Loraine ISD will have grief counselors on campus today. If you feel the need to talk please dont hesitate to contact them.

If this Thanksgiving is like the ones in the past, traffic will pick up somewhat tonight, and tomorrow will get heavier and by late afternoon Wednesday will be very heavy. If you and your family are traveling this holiday please stay alert and expect the unexpected. The number of wrecks we are having on I-20 is high , even on a normal traffic day. And please, if you see a number of vehicles with red and blues lined up over a distance they are trying to warn you of a wreck up ahead and a blocked road.. please reduce your speed and stay in the lane they direct you to until you safety get passed the wreck. On behalf of all First responders, we wish you and yours a very pleasant and safe Thanksgiving.. and as always we will be on call if needed... but we too prefer to be having Thanksgiving meals with family and friends if possible and I am sure you do as well... Please travel safely... and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

As we start getting ready for the 35th annual LVFD AUCTION I always get excited to see what surprises are in store to see and buy this year, because no one ever knows what will be there... you are likely to find anything from a riding lawn mower to gold mining equipment, from farm tractors to huge bull dozers, from RV's to Mobil homes, motor cycles to 4 wheelers and golf carts, cars, trucks, 18 wheelers,... NOTE all cars and trucks must have clean titles and be brought with you when brought to the yard.... we regret we CAN NOT take any water craft, sorry, And as always there will be trailers of all sorts, from horse and cattle trailers to flat beds large and small to lawn mower trailers.... I could spend the rest of the day naming off things that come in to this Auction, but I will just say make your plans now to attend this big Auction on March 25, 2023. Bring the family and have a fun day finding things and treasures you want to take home.. Food and drinks will be available on grounds. Sale conducted by Whitley May Auctioneers Lic. # 17029

For those that are asking when the Annual LVFD Farm Auction is gonna be this year, it will be on Saturday March 25th . We will start taking in consignments on March 13th and continue taking them until 5PM March 24th.. Hope you make your plans to join us for a day of fun and visiting with friends and family. Food and drinks available on location. Whitley May Auctioneers will once again host the auction.

The LVFD sadly reports the passing of Andy (Sarge) Jones. Andy lost his battle with cancer at 8:10pm last night. He will be greatly missed by the LVFD and by the countless number of people he has helped over his many years with the FD. No task was to big and he was nearly always the first one to respond to the station when the tone sounded, and he answered calls right up time he passed. He was a proud Marine Vet and will be buried in his Military dress blues. Funeral services pending. Fireman Andy Jones badge 429 has gone 10-42... RIP old friend and thank you for your service to both your country and the Loraine FD.
