🚒 Lookout Mountain Fire Department training days.

Members of the Lookout Mountain, Tennessee Fire Department recently conducted hands-on training focused on basic vertical ventilation—a critical fireground skill used to release heat, smoke, and toxic gases from a structure during a fire.

During this training, firefighters practiced proper roof operations, including tool placement, coordinated ventilation techniques, and communication with interior crews. These exercises help ensure our firefighters can safely and effectively improve conditions for both victims and firefighters operating inside a structure fire.

Ongoing training like this allows our department to stay prepared, sharpen our skills, and maintain the highest level of service for the citizens and visitors of Lookout Mountain.

🚒 Incident Update: Lookout Mountain Fire Department 🚒

Today, crews responded to an Automatic Fire Alarm in the 700 block of W. Brow Rd.

Upon arrival, light smoke was observed inside the home, and it was quickly determined that the source was an operating clothes dryer.

Thanks to the use of a working fire alarm and smoke detectors, emergency responders were notified in advance, allowing us to respond quickly and efficiently. Our team took immediate action, removing the dryer from the home and thoroughly checking for any exposures to the residence. Thankfully, no additional hazards were found, and the situation was safely resolved.

🔥 Safety Tip for Homeowners: To prevent dryer-related incidents, be sure to:

- Clean the lint trap after each use to reduce fire risk.
- Check and clean the dryer vent regularly to ensure proper airflow and prevent lint buildup.
- Inspect the dryer hose for any cracks or blockages that could restrict airflow.
- Never leave the dryer running unattended and always turn it off when not in use.
- Ensure the dryer is installed correctly with the appropriate venting materials and ductwork.
- Install and maintain working fire alarms and smoke detectors on every level of your home to provide early warning.

A little maintenance goes a long way in keeping your home safe.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our community protected!

Yesterday, our dedicated volunteers responded alongside the Lookout Mountain Fire and Police Department to rescue a 41-year-old woman who was stuck off-trail in snow and ice.

Thanks to our training and resources, we were able to use hypothermia prevention and management materials to keep her warm while the team set up a low angle rope system to safely assist her. She was then evaluated by Hamilton County EMS for further care.

This marks the second call this week for our all-volunteer team—proving that when every minute counts, we’re ready to act!

Safety Tips:

Always plan your route and stick to marked trails.

Dress appropriately for expected conditions, especially in winter.
Have a plan and communicate it to someone not on your trip.

Be prepared for the winter conditions, especially at higher elevations. The temperature drops 4 degrees for every thousand feet you ascend.

A big thank you to everyone involved in this successful rescue, and to our community for their continued support!

🚨 Rescue - Stranded Hiker on Icy Trail 🚨

Earlier today, Lookout Mountain Fire, alongside Chattanooga Hamilton County Rescue Service responded to a call of a stranded hiker on a trail near 311 W. Brow Rd. The icy conditions on the trail made it unsafe for the individual to continue.

Crews worked diligently, utilizing ropes and specialized rescue equipment, to safely assist the hiker off the trail.

We’re proud of the teamwork and dedication of all involved in ensuring a safe outcome. This serves as an important reminder to use caution when hiking in icy or hazardous conditions.

Stay safe, and thank you to everyone who helps keep our community protected!

🚒🔥 Lookout Mountain Fire Department Training🔥🚒

Today, the Lookout Mountain Fire Department conducted vital training on fire operations, including a Live Fire Exercise. This training was held at the Catoosa County Fire Training Center, and we were fortunate to have the support of several agencies to make it a success.

A special thanks to:

Catoosa County Fire Department for providing fill-in assignments, the use of their outstanding training center, and the Instructors / Crews who assisted with hosting this training.

Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department Rehab Unit (Hamilton County, TN) for ensuring our crews stayed safe and hydrated.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office - TN for providing law enforcement coverage throughout the training.

Our training covered critical topics such as fire attack strategies, understanding fire flow paths, and conducting declined attacks to simulate basement-type fires. This department-wide training ensures that all members are better prepared to respond effectively and safely in real-life emergencies.

We are deeply grateful for the collaboration and support of our neighboring agencies, which allowed us to conduct this essential training. Opportunities like this strengthen our skills and reinforce the importance of teamwork in serving our community.
