🌊️ Drowning Prevention Starts with You 🌊

As temperatures rise and more families head to the pool, lake, or beach, water safety should always be a top priority. Drowning can happen quickly and silently—often in less than a minute.

Help keep your loved ones safe by following these important tips:
🏊 Always designate a responsible adult to actively watch children around water
👀 Stay within arm’s reach of young or inexperienced swimmers
📵 Put phones and distractions away while supervising
🦺 Use properly fitted life jackets when boating or around open water
🏊 Enroll children in swim lessons and learn basic water safety skills
🚪 Secure pools with fencing, self-closing gates, and alarms when possible

Remember: Drowning is preventable, and constant supervision is the best defense.
Let's make this a safe summer for everyone in our community.

The Longwood Fire Department regretfully announces the passing of Retired Battalion Chief Don Castner.

Battalion Chief Castner faithfully served the citizens of Longwood from October 28, 1991, until his retirement on July 31, 2020. Throughout his career, he served in the roles of Firefighter, Lieutenant, Fire Marshal, and ultimately Battalion Chief.

BC Castner was respected and well-liked by all who had the privilege to serve alongside him. He will be remembered as a knowledgeable firefighter, dedicated public servant, and someone who always brought a sharp sense of humor to those around him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Castner family and all those affected by this loss during this difficult time.
