Day of Caring brings together individuals, businesses, civic groups, and organizations for one powerful day of service that supports local nonprofits and community programs throughout Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties.

Need to donate to a 501c3 for the Nippon Tragedy

We have been contacted by several companies looking for ways to support those affected by the recent tragedy. In some cases, company giving programs require donations to be made to a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

To help facilitate these contributions, donations may be made to United Way of Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties and designated for the Nippon Fund. United Way will distribute 100% of these designated donations directly to the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Central Labor Council to support those impacted.

Columbia Wellness is offering a free grief support group for anyone in the community who has been affected by the Nippon tragedy. These gatherings are intended to provide a supportive space for connection and healing. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., beginning Tuesday, June 2nd. Community members are welcome, and you do not need to be a client of Columbia Wellness to attend. The group will meet at our offices at 720 14th Avenue, on the second floor.

HOW YOU CAN HELP THE VICTIMS AND FAMLIES

Ongoing - Through June 27, the 842 Group locations will be running a community fundraiser to support families affected by the Nippon tragedy. Guests will have the option to round up their check, with contributions being directed to the Nippon Family Fundraiser.

842 Group will also match guest donations collected during the campaign up to $4,000. This is being done across our four locations: The Office 842, Triangle Tavern, Silver Star Sports Bar & Grill, and Maddalena’s Italian Café.

For anyone who would rather contribute directly, donations can also be made to the Nippon Family Fundraiser account held at Lower Columbia Longshoremen’s Federal Credit Union.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by the tragic events at Nippon Dynawave on May 26. We are holding the workers, families, first responders, and the entire community in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

In moments like these, our community comes together — and United Way of Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties is committed to being part of that response in meaningful and coordinated ways.

Right now, we are actively connecting with local agencies, community leaders, and response partners to better understand the immediate and long-term needs that may emerge. We believe the most effective support comes from listening first and working collaboratively to ensure resources are directed where they can have the greatest impact.

As needs become clearer, United Way stands ready to help mobilize community support, coordinate fundraising efforts, and assist in connecting resources to individuals and families affected by this tragedy.
