Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day and the solemn conclusion of National Police Week, we honor and remember the local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Since 1962, this day has served as a national tribute to those who gave their lives protecting others and the communities they served.

We also recognize the families, friends, departments, and communities forever impacted by their loss, and extend our deepest gratitude to the officers who continue to serve with courage, integrity, and selfless dedication each day.

To those we have lost: We remember you. We honor you. Your sacrifice and legacy will never be forgotten.

We join our colleagues at the Massachusetts State Police in mourning the loss of Trooper Kevin Trainor, who was killed overnight by a wrong-way driver. Our thoughts and solidarity are with the Trooper’s family, friends, and fellow members of the MSP as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

School Resource Officer Kevin Healey is always finding ways to support our students, both in and out of school. Since our officers are responsible for keeping their cruisers clean and deployment-ready, SRO Healey checked two boxes at once by stopping by the LHS Boys Lacrosse Team's car-wash fundraiser on Saturday, sponsored by the Longmeadow Garage.

LHS Boys Lax did a great job; the cruiser was spotless. We're always proud to support our students!

We are sharing this important update from the Town to ensure all our residents stay safe and informed.

We have received reports of scammers impersonating town officials and demanding immediate payment for permits, bills or fines. Please remember: The Town will never call, text, or email you demanding immediate payment via wire transfer, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.

SCAM ALERT: We have received reports of a sophisticated phishing scam targeting permit applicants. Scammers are impersonating Board Chairs and sending fraudulent invoices to solicit large payments. In our standard operating procedure, Board Chairs do not personally issue or mail invoices to individual applicants. Do not click any links or send money.

If you receive a suspicious request, contact the official department / permitting authority directly using the phone number listed on www.longmeadowma.gov to verify your application's status. www.longmeadowma.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/1275

Today, Longmeadow Police and Fire faced off in the "Battle of the Badges Basketball Game" - and it did not disappoint. The only thing LFD was able to extinguish? Their hopes of winning.

The Scoreboard doesn't lie:

Joking aside, everyone had an awesome time. Thank you to everyone who came out and filled the bleachers; we appreciate the support!

Huge thanks to Bari Jarvis and her team at the Longmeadow Parks Dept. for organizing and making this great event happen.

We would like to share the following message from our friends at the CLOSE Community Coalition and thank them for all their hard work:

Dear Community Members,

No matter the age of our kids, we all want them to be safe on the roads. Let's show our support of this by coming together to promote safer roads and celebrations.

We are entering an exciting time of year. Prom and graduation season is here—and so is one of the highest-risk times of year for teen impaired driving.

You can help make a difference in less than a minute.

✔ Sign up to host a When Parents Host lawn sign
✔ We deliver it to your home
✔ We pick it up at the end of the campaign

Your participation helps shift norms and sends a clear message to teens: celebrations should be safe, sober, and responsible. The more people who sign up, the stronger our message, and the stronger our solidarity.
