Happy to receive this grant to continue our fire education with students and seniors in Longmeadow.

I'm delighted to share that several municipalities in our district will receive FY26 Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) and Senior SAFE Grant Awards to support local fire departments in keeping children, older adults, and families safe.

Town of East Longmeadow: $8,613.63
Granby MA Fire Department: $6,872.05
Longmeadow Fire Department: $11,400.00
Ludlow Fire Department: $10,317.54
Palmer Fire Department: $8,505.50
South Hadley Fire Dist 2: $9,267.78
Wilbraham Fire Department: $15,329.52

Together, these awards represent more than $98,500 in fire and life safety education for communities across our district.

The SAFE program brings age-appropriate fire prevention and safety education to school-age children, while Senior SAFE helps protect older residents through education, home visits, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm replacement, fall prevention efforts, and other important services.

Road Closure coming up!

Beginning August 3, 2026, Converse Street between Route 5 and Laurel Street will be closed Monday through Friday from 7am to 3pm to accommodate roadway construction for the "L" Project. This phase of work is expected to take roughly five weeks. Extended travel time or alternate routes should be planned while this work is happening. Crews are operating in the area of Converse and Althea for a fuel spill that entered a small stream. Department of Environmental Protection is on scene and a cleanup contractor is en route. Please be advised there may be a slight fuel odor in the area.
