The Garden Club of Long Valley We encourage interest in civic beautification, gardening in our community & the art of horticulture. Despite our small club status, we are very active!

The Garden Club of Long Valley is classified as a small club by GCNJ with our membership set at 45 members. We also have a very active Youth Group, "The Sprouts of Long Valley". Many of our programs, workshops and events focus on gardening in our community, encouraging civic beautification and the study and teach of the fine art of horticulture throughout our calendar year. We were privileged to participate in a joint project with Rutgers and the Raritan Highlands Compact to install a rain garden at the Washington Township Public Library. We participate in the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Zion Lutheran Church every December. We also plan, plant and maintain municipal gardens throughout Long Valley all year long. Our programs, workshops and special events throughout the year provide our members with educational forums for discussion. We share our talents with our community in a number of ways including our Garden Therapy Committee’s work in spreading cheer to our town’s seniors, and with our May Day flower baskets delivered to families with members in our armed forces. We work with our Historical Society to provide wreaths for their annual House Tour. We also find time for trips to such places as Wave Hill in New York, Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia and New Jersey Flower Shows. We are proud of our talents and prize the work we do in our community.

🌿 Spots are filling up for Budding Naturalist!

This nature-based program for preschoolers (ages 2-5) kicks off in about two weeks! Each week, your little one will learn about a different animal that calls Fair Hill home.

Our 10am session is sold out, but we still have a couple of spots left at 12pm and a few more at 2pm. Please note, this is not a drop off program and a caregiver must be present. Siblings under 2 welcome at no charge.

FOJH Partner News: Annual Talk & Tea at Cross Estate Gardens

Join the Cross Estate Gardens volunteers on Thursday, September 17 from 1–3 PM for their annual Talk & Tea featuring local author Marta McDowell, who will share the botanical side of Beatrix Potter through selections of Potter’s artwork, gardens and work, inspired by her new book, A Beatrix Potter Botanical: The Art of Flowers and Fungi.

Light refreshments prepared by Cross Estate Gardens volunteers will also be served.

This year’s fundraiser has an especially important purpose.
Last July, a 90-year-old silver maple split near its base and fell onto the historic pergola, damaging eight granite pillars, an adjacent stone wall and gate. The western end of the pergola and main entrance to the walled garden have remained fenced off for visitor safety.

The NJ Historical Garden Foundation has now contracted with a restoration mason to rebuild the historic structures. The total project cost is $27,800. Thanks to grants and donations, $17,000 has already been raised — leaving $10,000 still needed to complete the restoration.
