During pregnancy, a lot of women deal with morning sickness. The cause of morning sickness is unknown, but it typically worsens during the first trimester.
To deal with morning sickness, try these four tips!
1) Eat a few crackers before you get out of bed in the morning.
2) Avoid the things that make you nauseous.
3) Eat smaller, more frequent meals.
4) Stay hydrated! Make sure you're drinking plenty of water.
About 3% of women experience a more severe form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). HG typically lasts longer than morning sickness, continuing after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. If you're getting sick more than 3 times a day, not able to keep food/liquid down, or losing weight during pregnancy, it may be HG. If this sounds like you, talk to your healthcare provider to make sure that you and your baby are receiving proper nutrition.

No matter what season you're in, it's important to have a good support system. You need people who have your back! Your support system might be your immediate or extended family, your neighbors, friends, coworkers, church, or any other number of people and places. The important thing is that you have people you are able to ask for help and who will consistently step in when you need it.

Having a good support system can help reduce your stress and improve your physical and emotional health.

Do you need help identifying who is in your support system? We're here to help! Our trained advocates believe that YOU MATTER and want to help you see who is there to care for you. For more information, or to set up an appointment, call or text (320)-8740-0124.

An unplanned pregnancy can be intimidating for anyone, but especially if you're young. You are capable! Work on these 5 things to help your parenting journey go more smoothly:
1) Take it one day at a time
Don't get ahead of yourself. It's ok if you don't know it all, make mistakes, don't have it all figured out, or if you don't know what's next. Although it's easy to be anxious about parenting, take a deep breath. When you slow down and focus on doing well in each moment, the future isn't quite so scary.
2) Focus on learning and growing
Every parent has a lot to learn, including teenage parents. Fortunately, there are a TON of resources available to you! Try a pregnancy or parenting class, find a mentor, or talk with your healthcare provider for more information about all things baby.
3) Be ready to break the molds people make for you
Between social media and people's preconceptions, there are a lot of boxes that you might try to fit in. Worrying about these molds will drain you. Instead, focus on doing what is right for you and your baby. Listen to wise counsel, but don't feel like you need to fit the exact picture that society as a whole has of you.
4) Improve your soft skills
Work on growing your soft skills, like communication, listening, conflict resolution, etc. Use these skills for conversations with your boyfriend or girlfriend, your parents, your teachers, and many more. These are skills that many people learn as they mature, but they are things that you'll have to focus on to have an easier time as a young parent.
5) Lean on your community
No parent can do everything on their own - especially young ones. Lean on your community. There are resources available to you, people to guide and support you, and much more. If you try to do it all on your own, you'll burn yourself out. There are people who care about you!
Again, we're here to support you. We offer free pregnancy and parenting classes, life coaching, and physical resources (diapers, wipes, baby clothes, etc.) to make parenting doable for you. For more information, or to set up an appointment, call or text (320)-874-0124.
