LB Health Healthy Active Long Beach Healthy Active Long Beach is a project with the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services. The Long Beach Jr.

Healthy Active Long Beach program activities include:

Free Nutrition Education Workshops and Healthy Cooking Demonstrations. Workshops are taught in English and Spanish at various locations (Parks, Community Centers/Clinics, and DHHS Facilities) throughout Long Beach. Beach Runners Program: A partnership with Parks and Run Racing that combines a kids marathon training program with nutrition educ

ation curriculum to promote physical activity and healthy eating. Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Promotion (CX3): Neighborhood assessments designed to provide data and set priorities to improve the food and physical activity landscape for low-income neighborhoods. Eight neighborhoods have been assessed in the Downtown and Central Long Beach area. Key findings include: nearly all markets and fast-food restaurants in the CX3 neighborhoods do not meet “healthy market/restaurant” standards; many stores selling liquor are in violation of the Lee’s Signage Law creating potentially unsafe store conditions while promoting unhealthy food options; in CX3 neighborhoods, residents pay more than 10% above the county average for fruits and vegetables. Long Beach has many strong, active neighborhood and community groups who can use this data to make positive changes such as small market conversions, removal of signage and promoting opportunities for locally grown food to increase access and lower food cost for residents. Nutrition education, material distribution and healthy food tasting at health fairs, farmers’ market and community events. Healthy Active Long Beach enhances current health department programs by providing nutrition education classes to eligible families, trainings for providers who work with low-income families, citywide messages that enforce healthier lifestyles, and by providing an on-site resource for nutrition education material and information for people of all ages and backgrounds

🌟 Spring Break just got more exciting in Long Beach! 🌟

Did you know? Being active can help you sleep better, feel good about yourself, and keep your heart healthy.❤️

Any activity that makes kids' hearts beat faster and makes them breathe harder is good exercise. It can be as easy as dancing in the living room or jumping rope at the park 🏃‍♂️🎶.

The most important thing is to have fun! 🎉

👨‍🍳This fall, we worked with Stephen’s Middle School to launch the Long Beach Chef Champion program. Over eight weeks, our 8th-grade students learned important skills in cooking, nutrition, teamwork, and leadership.

🍎 Each week, students faced fun challenges. They practiced following cooking instructions, working in teams, and improving their public speaking.

Watching these young chefs succeed was inspiring. We enjoyed supporting them throughout the process. It was a great way to end the year!

Stay tuned for updates on a project they will be working on in 2025!

👨‍🍳Este otoño, trabajamos con Stephen's Middle School para lanzar el programa Long Beach Chef Champion. Durante ocho semanas, nuestros estudiantes de octavo grado aprendieron importantes habilidades en cocina, nutrición, trabajo en equipo y liderazgo.

🍎 Cada semana, los estudiantes enfrentaron desafíos divertidos. Practicaron seguir instrucciones de cocina, trabajar en equipos y mejorar su oratoria.

Ver triunfar a estos jóvenes chefs fue inspirador. Disfrutamos apoyándolos durante todo el proceso. ¡Fue una excelente manera de terminar el año!
