Long Beach Police Arrest Man on Multiple Burglary and Assault Charges Following Home Invasion Incident
Long Beach, NY – June 3, 2026 – The Long Beach Police Department has arrested an 18-year-old Long Beach resident following a series of incidents that culminated in a home invasion, assault, and the recovery of what initially appeared to be a handgun.
On June 2, 2026, at approximately 5:42 p.m., Long Beach Police Officers responded to a report of a male attempting to steal a bicycle from a rear yard. While investigating that complaint, at approximately 6:12 p.m., Long Beach Police Dispatch received a report of a male matching the same description in the rear of a home on Michigan Street holding what appeared to be a black handgun.
Officers immediately responded to the area and located a male matching the description. The suspect was apprehended and found in possession of what appeared to be a handgun. Further investigation later determined the weapon was a BB gun.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had unlawfully entered a residence through a rear door and confronted a female resident inside the home. The female resident fled the residence and located her husband, who was outside nearby. The husband returned to the residence and discovered the suspect inside a bedroom. The suspect then fled the home after being confronted.
Investigators further determined that the suspect attempted to enter a neighboring residence but was confronted and chased away by that homeowner. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly turned and pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at the homeowner and fired, striking the victim in the head with a BB and causing physical injury.
Long Beach Police apprehended the suspect a short distance away. It was at that time that officers determined the weapon involved was a BB gun.
The suspect was identified as Yoser Sandoval Gomez, 18, of Long Beach, New York.
Sandoval Gomez has been charged with:
• Three counts of Burglary in the First Degree
• One count of Attempted Burglary in the First Degree
• One count of Assault in the Second Degree
• One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree
• Two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree
Sandoval Gomez was arraigned in Long Beach City Court on June 3, 2026, and held on bail set at $250,000 cash or $2.5 million bond. At the time of arrest, it was determined that Gomez had recently been arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd at a Long Beach Fire Station and charged with Burglary 3rd degree but was free because Burglary 3rd is a non-bail qualifying offense.
Acting Police Commissioner Richard DePalma praised the swift actions of responding officers.
"This was a deeply disturbing series of events that understandably caused significant concern among our residents. Thanks to the rapid response, professionalism, and determination of our officers, a dangerous situation was quickly brought under control before anyone suffered more serious injuries. The Long Beach Police Department remains committed to protecting our community and holding accountable those who threaten the safety and security of our residents."
The investigation remains ongoing.
